In a world full of chaos ,unrest , social & political instabilities, challenges, obstacles ,hunger even sickness & epidemics. There's always a good reason not to merry & happy : bills to pay, rents, fees, a vacation et al, it's indeed tough yet like the Biblical proverbial pharse : though the fig tree blossom not, no fruit on the vine, herds of the stalk fails.. everything falling & failing, yet he finds a cause to be happy, to smile again.. He understands sorrow/regret & hate changes nothing but saps today of her goodness.
