So last week I said enough is enough and I got myself to the gym. I also started eating more healthy, leaving my credit card at home, avoiding the shops like a plague. Sugar and chocolate was my Achilles Heal, I would easily smash a full block of chocolate (family size, not the little kiddies ones) and still down a 500mL flavoured Milk. Why I'm not dead yet is a mystery.
Last night I was feeling off, I figured I was just tired, I had a few aches and pains etc. But today it feels like a bloody Mack truck with all 6 trailers just ran me over. Then it reversed back and did a full truck burnout on me.
Every part of me is aching, I have fuzzy head and blurry vision, i just want to sleep. When I say every part of me aches, I mean absolutely every part, from my hair, to my dangle berrys.
So it appears that its Ketosis Flu, an abomination designed in the 3rd ring of hell to let you know that your body is transitioning away from burning sugars as its main fuel supply and starting to use fats.
Why on earth would people want to be healthy if you gotta go through this nightmare. But I'll stick with it, I exploded 2 pairs of pants buttons last week, so I can't afford to NOT loose a few kilos.
Everyone Say a hail Mary, pray to Buddha maybe even sacrifice a goat for me, I'm going to need the support.
If you don't hear from me tomorrow, I'm probably curled up in the fetal position sobbing like a baby.
Holy fuck. I've never heard of keto flu until just now. After looking it up....wow. I can't even imagine. I don't think this equals out in any way whatsoever, but I remember when I began the diet I am on now. Those sugar withdrawals were a fucking bastard. I got so moody and the smallest things made me want to rip someone's head off. I've gotten past that now.
As for the chocolate indulging--I know how that goes. I've developed a system to prevent me from eating too much. Well, firstly, without eating or drinking anything with a high sugar content, it'd be way too sweet for me. But, I eat a small square every day either after breakfast or lunch (depending on when I get the craving). I buy organic fair trade dark chocolate, which is obviously more expensive than Hershey's or Dove, but it's definitely a better quality, and switch brands/cacao percentages whenever one bar runs out.
I'm not sure how this flu lines up with other sicknesses like the cold, but when I got sick, I started drinking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar mixed with a cup of water. I've never had a sickness go away so fast. I've been drinking it every morning for about a month or two now and I definitely recommend it. I had a stuffy nose for literally 5 1/2 months and tried almost every mucinex type pill out there, even the shit my doctor prescribed, and none of it worked. Well, none of it lasted. I think it was the second or third day of drinking ACV and the congestion went away and has not come back since. Coincidence? I think not.
One big suggestion for you when you feel up to good health would be to drink a lot of water. At least a half gallon a day. If you already do that, that's fantastic, but I definitely can't stress it enough how important water is when entering the fitness world, especially if you're going to try to cut out those sugary drinks. If you drink soda, I'd start by cutting those out first and then start eliminating others from there--whether the process is fast or slow doesn't REALLY matter. Obviously if you could quit cold turkey it'd be a lot better than a 6 month span, but there's always the consequence of withdrawals and what not. The important thing is that you limit those indulgences and, ideally, rid of them entirely. However, cheat days can be your best friend. Say, every Saturday. Eat clean Sunday-Friday and indulge on Saturday. Not excessively, but have a meal or two of some of your favorite stuff. It creates something to look forward to, so you can stay on track for a majority of the week.
I know I was kind of all over the place and I'm not sure if any of this comment will help you in any way, but I can only hope. I look forward to some updates from you!
I am not an expert--I am just speaking from personal experience. I am a junior in college majoring in English Language Arts. I do, however, have about three years in the diet/fitness world
Thanks mate. Yes I'm trying to drink a tonne more water, adding a touch of salt to it as well to help keep up on the electrolytes.
I was never a bit soda drinker, not like those people that would have 3-4 a day. I actually prefer soda water, not sure what you call it over there, basically just water with some carbonated bubbles, no sugar or anything.
I'm probably going to go to the doctors today, as I slept about 14hours straight last night and am not really feeling much better.
Fight through it.....Once you are on the other side, your energy levels will be off the charts, I promise you. It should only last a few days, but you can supplement with something like Maca root powder to help you get through. I like the gelatinized stuff by "Terrasoul". It will help keep your energy levels up. Also I found vitamin D supplements helped me get thorough that initial exhaustion.
Keep up the fight, it's worth it in the long run.
thanks mate :)
health is wealth.. i should take that advice too actually.
Health is well indeed..
Hope you get well soon @gohba.handcrafts
@micch
I bounce in and our of keto on a fairly regular basis.... keto flu hits me every time... usually on the Wednesday after a diet-breaking weekend.. but it's never ever been as bad as that first time.
I've done it a few times as well, went about 3months without sugar once, this is the worst one in about 2 years.
Smash out some jogs around the park mate, youll be fine!!! :-)
Are you crazy!!!!!!!!!!! lol
Yes, yes I am. Lost grip of reality a long time ago :-)
You must be on quite the diet man. Good luck!
Hey @gohba.handcrafts
Man...I cannot imagine what you are going through. Body burning it's own fat as you zero down your sugar intake. How long till that happens mate?
Is that why my body begins to now have hunger cravings for some ice cream when I've stopped for a while now... Hmmmmm maybe that's just be being greedy. LOL.
Keep it up!!! And steem on!
Thanks mate. It should take about 3 days.
Sugar addiction is probably one of the biggest epidemics of the modern age. They say sugar can release the same feeling as cocaine and be just as, if not even more controlling than cocaine.
Yes mate. When I saw the Aussie documentary "That Sugar Film" it was a HUGE eye-opener!! Have you seen it?
I think I may have, or at least watched part of it
That picture made me laugh. :) I was stuck on the couch for four days a couple weeks ago and the picture pretty much summed it up. Great choice! Peace friend.
Have an OXO cube in warm water it'll fix that flu right up in like 20 Mins have yu ever heard the saying " wana lift then drink bonox" something we use to yell out the car window to backpackers will it's the same sotrta drink.
Hi i'd never heard of that. Though I do love eating raw stock cubes.
Get well soon mate. I know it feels horrible right now but when you come out the other side you will have a new appreciation for life. I had my own health scare recently and it's never too late to do something positive about it.
hahaha brilliant, funny, engaging.
Keto flu: just up your electrolytes: magnesium, potassium, sodium. You'll be good in a few days.
