Organizing your content like a pro

in #systems7 days ago (edited)

I read a post by KillerWot today which mentions how using the Hive blockchain to store information that can’t be censored or controlled is incredibly powerful, but also a bit inefficient. Content can sometimes be difficult to organize and find. This is true, but this is the nature of decentralized development, isn't it?. There are only small teams working on building solutions like INLEO, PeakD, VSC, SPK network, etc. So development can be a bit slower than what you can expect with company-owned solution with a huge budget. It does get better with time though. In the meantime, I’ve found that a good way to get the most out of the HIVE ecosystem is to use a combination of company-owned solutions with decentralized ones. Let's take a look at some of them on how I use them.

Notion to organize my blog posts

This one is the center of my strategy to organize my content creation work. I’m able to filter and visualize my content in different ways, for example if I’d like to get a timeline view, I can do that

This will give me a nice, broad overview of what I’ve done and what I plan to do in the coming quarter. Being able to look at what I've done in the past few weeks might motivate me to listen to a new podcast to get ideas, or perhaps to go back and edit a post because I ran into something insightful. A timeline view like this also lets me make sure I don't leave huge gaps in my content. I'm not a daily writer by any means, but I do try to publish something (written or video) at least a couple of times a week, so this view helps me make that happen.

If I’d like to take a look at my categories, I can use a table view like this one:

$1

This way I can see what categories get the most engagement and perhaps take a look at what categories I’ve forgotten to write about in a while. I can also add columns to my table in case I'd like to add even more detail. For example, if I'd like to organize my posts by the rewards they've earned, the communities I've written in or any other category I'd like to add, I can do that. Very useful.

Both of these views in notion.so allow me to quickly access images I've created or used in the past and I can link them to new posts or I can link entire blog entries to reference current blog posts to give my readers a more complete experience if I'm talking about related subjects.

As I mentioned at the beginning, storing data in an immutable database is hugely important, but that data needs to be able to be found.

Social media calendar on Monday.com

And Finally, my social media posting calendar. Notion also has a calendar view, but my business uses monday.com. So I tend to use this tool since I can easily hand over content to my assistant who organizes my web2 channels like YouTube, Vimeo, etc.

The reason my posting calendar is useful, is because I'm not always blogging. I'm often times making first-person videos in my studio, sometimes I'm making animated videos and sometimes I need to plan other types of content that are not necessarily long-form blogs.

There are a bunch of different tools you can combine to make your content easier to find and help you organize your writing, recording and publishing schedules. The most important thing is that you're already in the process of changing your mindset to a value-for-value mentality and this puts you in a small and privileged minority, so congratulations! and happy blogging!

I'm not that organised, but then I blog for fun. I just appreciate the engagement I get here as it's better than on other platforms I've used.

I've a project management background from my previous life, so I tend to be very meticulous about a number of things. I'm a creative by nature, though. Doing blogging for fun is great too and there's nothing wrong with being completely spontaneous with your writing. I'm trying to organize my content so I can refer back to it when I need to and I also want to develop this concept of Decentralized Creative. My plan is to make content for YouTube that might show musicians, artists, designers and other creative freelancers how they can harness Web3 and the value4value philosophy to monetize their craft.

Well we need people doing more of that. I am not a marketing person, but I know it needs strategy. I'm just not too active on other platforms these days, but I will talk to musicians I know.

This is interesting as I did use Notion until a year or so ago. I’m using Obsidian more nowadays to write up my research on history, music and the various things I’m into.

Sometimes it’s hard to remember whether tube written about something in the past isn’t it?

Wow! very cool! You can visualize the relationships of your ideas like a network!
This is amazing; I have to try it.

Yes, I can sometimes be difficult to remember if you've written about something before and also, If you've organized your ideas like this, you can revisit an old idea and add to it or use it as inspiration on a new, related idea.

It’s a very powerful tool with backlinks and a whole host of extensions for it to make it even more powerful.

Hmm
I’d try to make use of Notion
I can’t lie, I’m not a very organized person but I’m sure this will help

If you're not organized by nature, using tools can definitely help.

Thanks so much

When I was writing regular blog posts, I had a monthly post plan. I knew what I had to write every day. Sometimes I would write down that I had to write a hiking post for a day, but I wouldn't have hiked until that day, so I had to come up with something else on the fly, but I stuck to the plan 28-29 out of 30 days.

Being organized is always a big advantage, man.

It sure helps! I almost have to remind myself to be organized every day. It might be a bit painful or tedious in the moment, but it's so valuable to your future self. It's like doing a small favor for your future you!

Did you see the tool that @nicklewis showed me in the comment above? It's called Obsidian and it let's you map out your ideas like a network. I have never seen anything like it. I'm going to try it this week.

Wow Obsidian looks really interesting man, I'm going to take a closer look at it tomorrow because it looks like a very comprehensive application. I open to new ideas and apps :)

It's my job to do my future self a favor!

This is hive at its best!

Very organized, Alex. I am doing my posting on Hive more spontaneously though I have several topics I cover regularly.

Yes! spontaneous content is also important as it comes from inspiration that hits in the moment. I also have an improv category for this type of content. I am currently working on developing my personal brand across all social media, so I'm trying to develop a writing, visual and content style throughout.

Interesting. I've been thinking about organizing my blog posts by creating an index post and pinning it to the top of Peakd. The posts would be organized into topic themes. I hadn't thought about using 3rd party options.
