Let me tell you about a legendary little surfboard shed in the deep south of Capetown that specialises in tech and composite materials, with a strong focus on environmental impact & performance - Blackhill Road Surfboard Company
I've always maintained, no shaper will invest as much time in you as Stuboy does, proper personal factor here.
Me being in the right place at the wrong time to see Stuboy taken out at the local beach break by one bad decision of a fellow surfer. I noticed this pile of neoprene encrusted human writhing on the floor in pain on the deck. I rush over to find Stuboy with a huge gash in his hand, thumb hanging off and whole lot of stress on his shoulders. I quickly addressed the first of his 2 major concerns: Who is going to finish all the orders in the shed? To which I promptly answered "I've been in there long enough to be the hands, you just be the eyes and we'll get it done."
And so I learned to hone my skills with Carbon Fibre, Kevlar, Epoxies and board manufacture & repair. Now I'm by no means the skilled artisan that can produce repairs that are invisible to the naked eye, but one thing I am sure of my work is well over engineered and bulletproof.Pushing the design limits with an open minded approach, we even ended up designing and manufacturing the Blackhill Road Cruiser a bike of note and one of a kind for sure.
The real world eventually caught up with the legendary little Blackhill Road shed and sent Stuboy back deep into the corporate world, but for now the legend lives on.
