The Suicide Squad marketing machine has been hard at work for for the past few months, churning out a variety of content including cast mug shots, several new clips and trailers, and even the soundtrack. There’s been so much market saturation that the cast appearance at San Diego Comic-Con hasn’t provided much new information for those who have been keeping up.In the week since SDCC, which means we’re just one week away from the film’s opening, there have been some new developments. Aside from Harley Quinn’s butt cheek to short-shorts ratio having lead to discussions about Photoshop in TV spots, the official cast list was revealed and there’s another surprise appearance. The cameo had been so well hidden until now that even some cast members are just finding out.Jai Courtney, who took to extreme measures to prepare for this role, spoke to Comic Book about his role as Captain Boomerang in Suicide Squad and notes that Ezra Miller’s surprise appearance as The Flash in the film was news to him as well. Of the news of Miller’s appearance, Courtney said:
“I didn’t know [Ezra Miller] was in the movie until I saw the movie. It’s funny because I look back on it and I think ‘f—ing moron, of course that’s what’s happening.’ But even shooting that [scene] it didn’t occur to me… That was a little gem they were keeping.”
Boomerang’s capture that presumably lead to his imprisonment is a scene that happens early in the movie. Whether because of out of sequence filming or possibly The Flash having not been cast at the time of filming, Courtney implies the scene in question was filmed separately. He was also surprised that the news was leaked, saying, “That’s interesting, they could have protected themselves against that.”Throughout the short video interview, Courtney never reveals any actual details about Boomerang’s capture. “People are going to be curious to see what that [scene] means now,” he teases. “Not that [Suicide Squad] needs any help with the marketing,” he adds with a wry smile.Ezra Miller’s appearance in the new Justice League trailer provided fans with their first good look at his character’s lighter tone in the oftentimes dark world of the DC Extended Universe. With the DCEU being so interconnected (provided Boomerang survives the film), could there be a possibility for a Jai Courtney appearance in the upcoming Flash film? Here’s what the actor says:
