How I Define Success

in #success7 years ago (edited)

I have been doing a lot of work on rebuilding myself mentally and becoming the person that I always should have been. I was thinking about what I consider an official point of being successful at doing this and moving into a new lifestyle and I realized that this is a perpetually moving target, so I'll share my simple outlook on how I define personal success. I don't feel like there is any possible way to lose or fail when you are happy and being authentic and following your passions. I feel like no matter what at this point I can be dead broke, living under a bridge, borrowing someone's cellphone to make a quick post on steemit to share my experiences, and I would actually consider myself a success and here's why:

I have had jobs making a lot of money, I have had jobs where I was responsible for several multi-million dollar businesses that I ran for other people, and I have had points in my life where most people would say I was "wealthy." I know that none of that ever made me happy. Happiness isn't owning things or having money and controlling powerful positions in a business. Happiness is being authentic and sharing yourself with others. The only way to do this is to be completely honest with yourself and them and know what you want in life. Always set the bar higher than you can imagine yourself reaching, because you never know if you don't try and setting easy goals is limiting your own potential. Namaste.

I love your words here...

Happiness is being authentic and sharing yourself with others.

I completely agree.

Yes! I have learned that the grandest of endeavours are possible.
Sometimes authenticity and achievement also involves stopping and accepting small steps and achievable outcomes. That can one step at a time become a road towards something worthwhile and successful, in all aspects of life.
The hard part is how to tell the difference between whether you are stuck, or laying foundations.

You can never be stuck if you want to do and be better. I'm coming to terms with that now. Edit lol I thought this was a response to your poem.

True that my friend! XD

If you're going in on life, go all in.

True that, my friend! Just like a line of one of my favorite Katatonia songs. It goes "Are you in, or are you out?"
