Vancouver streets

It was a rainy day in east Vancouver, and I was sitting in a coffee shop with an open window to the sidewalk. I thought the lady with the umbrella and the resigned look on the faces of the men captured the mood of that day perfectly.

This is my entry for the #streetphotography contest by @juliank. Thanks for taking a look!

Hi, this is definitely Commercial Drive but I can't tell you the cross street. This was taken in 2014. I only lived in Vancouver for a few short months. Greetings from Victoria! (followed you back, thank you for the resteem & vote)

Thanks for your feedback @keithboone! It´s years ago as well for me. 😄 I have lived very close to Commercial also for just a few months, while I was traveling through Canada. Always a great place to visit and getting inspired by the local artists there. Happy to follow you and best regards from Washington.

Somehow, B&W seem so apt for street shots... :)

Thank you AC

This is really beautiful, hope you win!

Thanks very much!

Eh, that's Vancouver in a nutshell @keithboone ;) At least this time of year!

Rain, when out in nature vs in the city, seems different. I'm really learning to love the rain in the park! It keeps most of the people away while the camera man is busy ;)

Oh, I agree! I get out to the park in the rain almost every day... being that it rains every day here in Victoria as well. I'm starting to think BC has only two seasons: fire, and rain.

How do you protect your camera? When I go out there to visit I am always aware of the rain or moisture from the rain forest and worry about it ruining my equipment.

I was under a roof when I took this shot, but in general, I will cover the camera with a plastic bag if it rains too hard. I let the lens peak out through a hole in the bag, and carry the camera with the lens pointing down to keep it dry.

Dope shot, their facial expressions sure do set the mood. The rain can do that to you. ☔

Yeah, that's pain man! Weeks of rain will do that to ya! Thank you :)

Yes the faces of the men make it!!!

Thanks very much @old-guy-photos... I was going to post a shot of just the men. I wonder if this would have been better?

I like that one too but it tells a different story when you eliminate the lady with the umbrella. Here it looks like tough men toughing it through the rain, but with the woman holding the umbrella the shot tells me she's smart and the man closest to the road is looking at her wishing he had an umbrella. :)

You're right it does tell a different story. Thanks for your insight!

I think you'd have to experience west coast weather to really appreciate that look...lol. It's so true. Lovely shot.

Oh yeah, I'm about to head out in the rain again for a walk. Just trying to finish a post first. Thanks very much! :)
