As many of you might have noticed at this point, I really enjoy streaming on Dlive and have done that for quite some time now. Streaming isn't something new to me, although I never had a big audience on other platforms, I used to stream for fun on Twitch. Even before Dlive was announced I had made a few posts discussing how I am really looking forward decentralized streaming services on blockchain and especially Steem because of how things work here which I will talk about more in this post. I have to say the way Dlive has evolved since it still is fairly new has been amazing and I can't wait to see how it will continue to do so in the future.
Earning
Ways for streamers to earn on Twitch and similar streaming platforms compared to Steem are in many ways different. One of the main drives being adrevenue which doesn't exist here on the Steem blockchain. When you open up a stream on Twitch you will have to watch an ad, streamers at one point also had a way to publish an ad on their stream when they so wanted - like when going AFK for a few minutes or during load times. Sometimes it became abused, streamers asking their viewers to watch ads for them, etc.
Later on Twitch introduced the subscription method where viewers could subscribe to a channel for ~5$ per month, Twitch would take a cut and the streamer would take a cut and the viewers wouldn't need to watch ads anymore on said channel. To me this felt wrong in many levels, having to pay not to watch ads on your favorite stream. Adblock became more and more popular but many streamers circumvented that by placing ads directly into their own stream, so you couldn't block them unless you blocked the stream at the same time.
Here on Dlive you are not susceptible to ads unless the streamer wants to place ads themselves onto their OBS or show you ads on their stream if they are being sponsored by them, but as a viewer you can choose if you want to continue supporting that streamer with your votes/donations if that would be the case. So far I haven't seen a single streamer revert to ads on Dlive.
You also do not need to subscribe or pay the streamer directly in donations to find out when he is going live or have some other small advantages that Twitch's subscription does, like being able to use certain emoji's in chat. Don't get me started about Twitch chat, on popular Streams with thousands of viewers its literally the worst spamfest you will ever see, making it impossible to be able to read anything. I kinda like the comment timer on Steem compared to that and I hope Dlive will think of a good way to further evolve the chat with certain restrictions not to make it turn out the same way.
On Dlive and Steem, compared to Twitch, the most popular form of supporting your favorite streamers is through upvotes which obviously no other streaming platform has so far. We Steemians know how upvotes work and that you only have a limited amount of them but either way it is so different from donations and changes things drastically. You are in a way getting rewarded for rewarding your favorite streamers through curation rewards. This will give actual donations to streamers on the Steem platform a higher sense of reward after the upvotes, it will also become one of the few platforms where both the viewers and streamers can earn alongside eachother. Viewers being incentivized to buy Steem and stay powered up longer to support their favorite streamers while the streamers themselves can reward their most favorite viewers and active chatters. No other platform has that.
Another major difference between Twitch and Steem is that in order to even make money from adrevenue or subscriptions you first need to make the quota of activity you have on your stream for them to offer you a partnership. Many streamers have been trying for a long time to make it up there but end up not receiving it and in the meantime only Twitch is earning rewards for the ads they are showing on your stream.
Here on Steem anyone can earn rewards depending on the audience and Dlive curation, no matter if its your first stream or not.
Interaction
As many who have been into watching streams on Twitch before might know that a big problem that plagues many streamers is the trolling and harassment from chatters to streamers. Even though they have added measures to make that harder, such as locking viewers from being able to chat unless you follow the streamer it is still quite easy due to how easy it is to create an account on Twitch, you just need an email.
On Steem on the other hand you might also be aware of how difficult it has been lately to get a free account, having a waiting list and your account actually having real monetary value will incentivize you not to be a bad actor when your reputation and earning is on the line. The fact that whatever you comment is and will always be on the blockchain is another reason you might not want to troll constantly. If you still have the need to do that the streamer can at any time mute you and viewers of the stream will most likely not give you an easy time after such actions.
There is of course also the added incentive to be nicer on the platform for the sake of receiving rewards, although many may call this "asskissing" I'd say its better than generally being in a bad mood and lashing out on anyone you interact with. Of course there are many like those too who "just want to see the world burn" but that's just life. With that being said if you overdo the niceness it can easy come off as annoying and you won't see much rewards for your efforts then.
Control
Something that has been really controversial lately is about the control and power that Twitch has over their streamers. Many are afraid while streaming that something NSFW or controversial might pop up during their streams accidentally or through donation images/videos that will lead to them getting banned. Many streamers have in fact gotten banned on many occasions for mild stuff that was out of the streamers control and over time it has seemed as if the people in charge of these decisions have been quite selective over who they punish and who gets away with warnings. Many have lately moved over to youtube but let's face it, streaming is quite new there but the way they demonetize videos lately it won't be much better in the long run than streaming on Twitch. Twitche's regulations are getting stricter and stricter over time, making it a PC environment where anyone not following their ideals will get banished from the platform.
This is another thing that is amazing about decentralized streaming platforms, you can say and do whatever you want and there is not an entity holding their finger above a button that might change your career drastically because they do not like you or make hasty decisions. Even if Dlive were to remove you from their services because of something (which hasn't happened yet as far as I know), I am sure there will be other platforms to quickly pop up filling that gap instead. Steem the blockchain is censorship resistant, but that doesn't mean that there are no consequences as stakeholders can then remove your chances at earning rewards if you do something that the majority find disturbing. The good thing about that is that if in turn you are being flagged unfairly there are many who are there to step up and counter that.
Last thoughts
I don't want this post to become too long as readers generally enjoy shorter reads more. I just want to remind everyone how different this platform is and the apps being built on top of them. I am confident that the leader of Dlive knows what he is doing and that it will flourish into something amazing that will drive everyone to want to use it instead.
Not only will they want to use it, but they will at the same time be introduced to Steem, blockchain technology and feel a sense of being vested with the platform and having so many different ways of interacting and building themselves over time than just as regular viewers. Steem will offer them all of the tools necessary as more and more developers are building things on Steem.
I also want to point out that I don't hate Twitch, it has paved the way for streaming and e-sports since the beginning. The centralized ways it operates on, which they can't be blamed for cause they don't know better, and the dependency on advertisers selling them ads has turned it into something I personally don't like as much anymore, especially not knowing there are better alternatives out there already.
Thank you for reading, please feel free to contribute discussion to the post in the comments!
There are probably many differences I haven't covered in the post that exist.
DLive has been a godsend to me as a streamer. I've been streaming now for over a year, and only discovered it a couple months ago. I wish it were around sooner!!!
The money I'm making from it is helping me to reinvest into my streaming, and into the community, and putting me one step closer to my dream of streaming full time. In fact, I just changed my setup a bit more today, using money made from DLive:
I've been telling every content creator I know about the platform and even offer to pay the startup fee to get them over instantly (as opposed to waiting 2 weeks).
I'm really looking forward to seeing the platform flourish, and I think it's not just one of the best apps on the steem blockchain, but one of the best opportunities for content creators in general!
Wow nice setup, and welcome once again to this wonderful community, dlive just getting started and we still have lot more to archieve
thanks! :)
It really looks nics, Dlive doesn't show any ads unless and until you like to see them, if we go for youtube they show numerous ads if I even see a offline video, this thing I love most about this platform, and live streaming is quite easy, another thing is that they don't charge you for anything like other kive streaming sites that charge you monthly, Dlive is really cool and I love @acidyo streams here, particularly CSGO
Yup! There are definitely some big positives to DLive. :D
i gree start on trending
Yes, DLIVE is really good. I'm surprised how fast it works.
Steemit is really doing miracles with all development that they have.
Long live steemit!
I actually got to know about twitch from one of your steamings. Perhaps when the app is improved to permit interractions just like twitch, I might become one of your audience on dlive. Personally, I have not used either of them to stream, I have not really had anything to stream. When I eventually do, I hope the data consumption wont be killing...
Its not far off. :)
patiently waiting
Probably one of the greatest Live streaming services to get started on, and actually get noticed
I've been checking out DLive with a strange temptation for a while. If I had a camera and good internet, or a usable computer, oooh, I'm sure I would set out to do a lot with it. Before, when I saw DTube, I felt bad because they take like 25% of your rewards, altohugh it could be considered as a contractual acceptance of their taking it, so it would not be "your" rewards but their portion of the rewards; however, I just don't like that.
I prefer to be able to control whom I give stuff, and if I made a lot of money on DLive I'0d certainly support them quite a bit.
In fact, I love the fact that you can upload stuff instead of just having to stream. It's great, even if the main purpose is streaming. But in the end, I think that DLive may be one of the main things bringing people here. In fact, I've seen many who didn't like the platform at all, feeling as if they had to create too much. But then they heard that they could just stream their gaming and earn money, or record themselves doing whatever thy wanted and get money, and they come right back to Steemit to get that.
It's just awesome ok? lol
I watch a lot of my favorite twitch streamers such as Maximilian_Dood and ninja. They have great content when it comes to youtube and twitch and I can also see that they take their time when they put out content.
Although the benefits of Dlive and Dtube are great, I still have yet to be gravitated towards someone who has quality and entertaining content on those platforms. I want to see some comedy skits, animations, video editing montages, and so on.
Hopefully one day we'll get more of those users from different platforms to come over here. I'm not saying that there's no creative people here because there is, however, I feel that there is content that over powers other content if you know what I mean. Anyway, great post @acidyo. (❍ᴥ❍ʋ)
I'm guessing it depends on the amount of streamers and how much harder the competition is over there pressuring people to max out the quality of each stream as much as possible to stay at the top. Where as streamers that never pass 20-30 viewers even though they may have a lot of engagement barely make any rewards, which will be different over here with stake that keeps on increasing while paying out users in SBD and Steem appreciating in value over time.
It is in a way so different that it is hard to compare the two with eachother. I am sure many streamers currently there will appreciate the freedom of decentralized platforms and other benefits they will bring in the future.
I have actually just been loving it. I have gotten a ton of videos up in the last couple of months, with really good traction - they even through up one of my videos onto their Facebook page for promotion purposes.
I hope to see it expand and grow a lot. I'm looking forward to trying out a live some time soon!
Your gameplay and @strawhat own is what introduced me to Dlive and made me to fall in love with the platform.
I used to have video quality problems on slow network but it has now been fixed and I no longer have to miss my daily game streaming courtesy of you.
To me Dlive is one of the best thing to happen to streaming. That it is free and decentralized, crowns it all.
Thanks for introducing me to Dlive, thanks for being amazing and thanks for your wonderful contents.
Happy Dliving
First of all this post covers a lot of ground from reward earning to censorship and I must it will be a shame not to resteem this, recently been watching some YouTube video about how donation are made via twitch and I must say, if only this donators knew of a system that allows you to invest, and the money been invested can be used to reward multiple authors and still retain its value.
Dlive is the future of streaming and with the rate at which users come live daily, it wont be a surprise if we wake up to see it be rank as first spot as regard to streaming platforms.
We now see contest be held here as well, example of such contest was CSGO held by steemgc which was always interesting and came out perfectly.
Not to make my comments long as well am juat going to stop myself here RESTEEMED!
Thanks :)
Yeah we are still at its infancy.
I hope SteemGC gets some more tournaments going soon. ^^
hey @acidyo
DLive does not take any rewards from its live streamers and content creators like other platforms harnessing the STEEM blockchain.
They do not take 25% of the rewards like DSound & DTube. All the rewards go to the live streamer and content creator.
This is absolutely incredible.
DLive has figured out a way to create an awesome self-sustaining platform that makes live streaming fun and rewards it, all while not taking any revenue from the creators.
Great write up Acidyo, I appreciate the words and couldn't agree more. DLive is revolutionary when it comes to a broadcasting and video hosting platform. We don't take fees from our users, we don't take votes and most importantly we recognise and communicate with our community.
Of course not. Potential ad revenue on the Steem blockchain would be a piddling at this time. The value of STEEM is mostly speculative at this point. The value proposition, however, is to become a global advertising and promotion network according to the whitepaper. Should that never come to pass, the whole thing would've been a huge loss for the investors, that is, people willing to exchange STEEM and SBD for money that has purchasing power in the real world. Once Steem grows very large, corporations will be clamoring to get the attention of the masses using it and they will be paying top dollar for it. The blockchain is also a highly scalable decentralized payment system enabling micropayments to boot so that will also be a source of value for STEEM.
Hello Acidyo,
thanks for bringing dlive to my attention.
This may be a stupid question;
What is the difference between Dtube and dlive?
thanks mate!
Hey @acidyo,
Thanks for sharing your experiences for both projects. Twitch is the monumental streamingplat form for all kind of streaming. Making big business in holding up tournaments and be the main partner for ESL or whatever.. in fact that i start watching streams on twitch since mid ‘17 I recognized more and more, that the „pay for your content“ part is extremly going bad and got sucked me in many ways too.
In dlive, since I started earlier this year with steemit i started to stream my CSGO skills? with the best team I would say on @dlive , like you @strawhat and few other gamers. In part of taking knowledge of the Steemitgamingcommunity I have to say that’s a nice match, combining both together. Meet the friends to play with, stream it on the best dezentralized platform and get rewarded, win win in many ways.
So keep up the good things, I will do ;-) cheers m8 and see you on the streams and discord
Great and well written extensive write-up. I've seen you're long term respected Steemian since as long as I remember! So good to see these easy to use and also when they are Mobile (d)Apps which give more lines of revenue for users and creators, it's really awesome
Dlive is going to cause steem to blow up by itself, cant wait to see where steem is at in a year
I really enjoy watching you play..Thanks to Dlive for making it possible
You really made this Dlive tempting to me. I've never used it before and I think I will start using it now
Thanks for this new post sharing..i like this post..all the best..
upvote and resteemit.
yes, it is one of the best...
It promotes live gaming... so its fun for me all day.
Yep, lol, you get rewarded for doing your favourite things. :) It's really cool for that.
dlive is best and dear @acidyo i see your all post and do comment.
i like your activities about gaming.
thank you @acidyo
I love Dtube and Dlive and obviously Steemit too. But with Dlive it seems that everytime I want to open a stream urgently............yes you guessed it I can't open it. After a few tries I do get their eventually but it's a little frustrating. Still I can see the potential within it and I am hoping that it would surpass non blaockchain based competitors :-)
I totally agree with what you say my friend, Dlive taking the lead when it comes to the apps on the steem block chain when it comes to curation. I haven’t been using Dlive tho but with this insight you’ve given and with the little I know, I’m definitely gonna make my first stream on Dlive as soon as I get my IPFS settings right cause that’s the problem I face anytime I want you use Dlive, Dtube or Dsound... I always receive error uploading to IPFS. I tried all I could but I do manage to upload to dsound using a friend’s laptop so I’m gonna make my first Dlive upload soon, I mean soon enough. Thanks for sharing. Keep steeming and touching lives
Sounds fun!I should start using it soon;)
really dlive is amazing :) it is even supporting live gaming thats awesome. even I do love it .
Well, I have heard so much about dlive but never tried using it. Perhaps that is due to the generally poor internet around here. T obe honest, I do not know how it works. Can I use it to stream an experiment going-on in a lab (steemstem stuff, you know) or an even in real life?
You are right on the aspect of audience quota.
I remember when YouTube views quota was pegged at 10,000 views before you can monetize your channel.
I'm not familiar with twitch but dlive and steem in comparison with YouTube and other blogging platforms is unmatchable.
The steem blockchain is the golden ball of our time
The bottleneck remains sign ups which is tacking a quite a while to get fixed, so mass popularity and recognition will not happen until sign ups get streamlined.
Dlive is a great platform for both earner and enjoyer.
Thanks for such good post.
You make Dliving fun and easy to use. While i have neither used Dlive or twitch i believe the former will attract more attention in the long run. Looking forward to seeing you stream FIFA or PES.
You so right....The ads on twitch can be pretty annoying. I love the fact that Dlive doesn't use any ads.
Dlive is far better than twitch and youtube and swift live screaming ever released. Dlive is simply the best
I've been using dlive quite recently after a long break and all I can say is that is an amazing and friendly app, really easy to use rewards aside! Cheers bro!
It is a great app for the steem ecosystem.
I only hope people don't take too easy on the quality in their quest for upvotes from big SP backed accounts like dlive. It could turn against users in the long run if they are seen spamming too many dlive links or such.
Ha en trevlig helg!!
I love it myself. Never before had I done any sort of live streaming so I don’t have anything to compare it to. Dlive is fast and easy. I can even stream on the go (as long as my cell phone has good service) using the Broadcast Me app. ($5 for unlimited paid for that with just one @dlive upvote 😜) I record with my personal phone and use an iPad to set up the live stream on Dlive. It is so simple even a lineman can do it 😉 I can have a live stream up and running in less that 10 min. How awesome is that?!?!? My son @lil-splatts is 10 and loves Splatoon, so we set the phone up in front of the Tv and do some redneck live steaming while he plays. Did his first one today, and it turned out really good.
DLIVE FOR THE WIN!!!
These are so clear and direct. Your reasons are so concrete and clear for everyone to see.
I actually got to know about it through your live streams. It's an indeed a wonderful platform. Many people don't know about this. But your orientation is doing the magic....
Reesteemed
Dlive is 100% the best streaming platform for any streamer. 10/10 ign
Dlive Best !
I watch a lot of my favorite twitch streamers such as Maximilian_Dood and ninja. They have great content when it comes to youtube and twitch and I can also see that they take their time when they put out content.
I recently heard of DLive and I believe it will be the future of streaming. the people who start now will be the big ones in the future.
It's really good. I started to watch Dlive streams more because quality improved A LOT!
Well done by production team!)
I think it provides a wonderful opportunity for people to engage in multiple types of audiences. Some people do love video spoken format and they do not mind if it’s longer or if they can join in and have a way to interact live that way. Others still ant the cliff notes or whatever blog portion that can accompany it.
I do wish those that people who make video content here put a little more time into the written portion of it. Most time when you click on the blog it’s just the link to the video and maybe one sentence. I find it’s great to link a writ4en guide to the game I’m playing or proved update on what I did off steam as there are things that are just “boring” that streamers tend to take care off.
I’m a rather a shy person when it comes to speaking and I almost never talk which is why it’s not the best format for me personally. I otherwise love it as it lets me show actual gameplay to accompany my written portion. I’ve at least tried it a couple of times in the past and I think it is the future or at least a hyped of video and written. Those that are great at it can really go far here and should be getting in on this before everyone jumps on board.
It’s always good to try something new. Even if you are not that great at it. I’ve recommended to a couple of people in the past to try using dilve. They at least to me seem very fair and also are not taking a cut of what you earn. There are those who adapt and change and those that get left behind. This is really something people should have been doing months ago.
I like your post very much to me. I hope this is always better post than ever.
Wow....Really very nice informative post@acidyo....I really enjoy watching you play..Thanks to Dlive for making it possible.....thanks for sharing
Wow.....Really great post for steemit@acidyo...Thanks for sharing
very informative your post, thanks!
very complete the information of your post, thanks!
Since Dtube as many are saying that it is overtaking youtube i think this is the best
Thank you for a pleasant and informative read about live streaming. Nice to see hiw Steemit and dLive get an advantage over othe platforms. As always love your streams and will keep watching @acidyo.
I love the platform as well. Though, I don't know as deep as what you've written as I hadn't even tried live streaming till I found Dlive, seriously. I didn't even know what 'Twitch' was till reading your post LOL
I love DLive the most for its support and their team really care what's going on and what's wrong. I had one of their team guided me step by step once how to start live streaming. When I was having a small trouble, asked them in discord chat, they really reached out to offer some help. Though, I now more like uploading videos and once in a while live stream.
I DO AGREE with you that DLive is one of the best apps on the Steem blockchain and again, their support is hard to beat.
Great written here. Thanks for sharing! :) ❤
