The great Steemit Party - a fictional Story Part 2

in #story8 years ago (edited)

The party was raging around me, and I was starting to feel overwhelmed. My friend had told me I could be close, so close to catching the attention of one of the celebrities at the party. I'd be the talk of the town if I befriended one of them, or impressed one. But how could I do such a thing?

I saw dancers having fun just dancing. @sirwinchester looked to be having a good time, dancing hard and skillfully. I wasn't much of a dancer, but I did find his moves entrancing.

"No matter", I thought. "I'll just sit here and enjoy the show." So there I sat, watching people perform their tricks and antics, trying to get noticed. One part of me felt like they were trying too hard. They weren't really invested in it. They'd do one thing, and when it failed, tried another, but none of them seemed to have put their heart into it.

But then I saw a few people near the back. They were also showing people things, like albums of art, music, and photos. I was confused, because although none of them seemed to be trying to attract attention, people kept laughing and smiling during their conversations. I felt like something powerful was occurring in their little circle. People kept gathering around, interested.

That small gathering was nothing like the popular celebrities who had arrived and instantly formed a crowd, nor was it anything like the desperate looking people stuttering on the stage nearby, trying their hardest to get noticed. I couldn't help but feel that the people in this circle were just talking honestly and having a good time sharing things that they cared about.

I realized that I cared about a lot of things too. I had spent my entire life in my head, thinking about ideas and concepts, and experiencing events and people, and I realized I had something to say. I didn't want to say it just to get noticed or because I was trying to win friends. I just had this feeling of honest interest in what I was saying. So I went over there, and said hello.

"Um, hello! I couldn't help but notice your joy and merriment over here. May I have a seat?"

One of them nodded, and pulled up a chair for me. I sat down happily, and began to listen."...and that's why video games could save your life!" @voltarius exclaimed. I was quite amused, but he had explained himself so well, that I couldn't help but feel he had a point. Suddenly, I forgot I was at a party, and it almost felt like I was just with friends and neighbors. I didn't care about the fame or fortune, I was just having a good time. But then it was my turn to speak. I was silent for a moment, unsure what to say... But then I explained one of my darkest, and most enlightening experiences. It was a hit. I suddenly felt like I was worth a million bucks. It was a strange feeling, but I liked it.

Just then, there was a CRASH, and a cloud of dust rose into the air. I heard drunken singing, and lo and behold, there was @dollarvigilante wearing makeup, rising out of the dust. But wearing makeup like a girl. I was absolutely flabbergasted. I laughed and laughed, but then serious'd up. He was being assaulted by a bunch of people, so I felt like helping him. I didn't really feel like I had enough authority to just go and help him though, so I simply watched.

(credit goes to @stellabelle , good job lol)

"You son of a !§$!§&," came a voice from near @dollarvigilante. @berniesanders had his hands on his hips, and looked pissed."You can't simply interrupt the ceremony. The ritual must be completed." @dollarvigilante looked confused, and a bit sorry, despite still wearing the absurd makeup. @berniesanders continued, "You're not just some sort of little fish, so you have a responsibility. You need to return. And you."

He was looking at me. I suddenly felt put on the spot. "We need you as well." Was he really looking at me? I stood up nervously, and walked towards him. He nodded, so I continued, growing fearful. Didn't he just say the word "ritual"? Ceremony? What was going on?

@berniesanders looked down on me, and explained, "We need a witness. One who can view that all has gone as foretold. You think this party is merely a formality? Or just a casual get-together? No, it is something important, and we must perform the ritual of the witness. The grand curation ceremony." I was confused. A strange girl stood up. "Aye. That's the way it must be. Although it hasn't been done before, at least not successfully, we must perform it. And correctly!" The girl named @ash shooed @berniesanders away, and took control. "Follow me. I will show you what you need to do."

I shrugged and followed, not quite knowing what I was getting up to.

I walked through a corridor, and what I saw absolutely startled me. A grand chamber, filled with candles and magnificent walls. Upon the walls were etched strange symbols and characters. Images of dogs (much ancient, so prestige), engravings of symbols, all of which reminded me of all the symbols of currency. In the center stood a large idol. A $. It was huge, and made of wood, plated with gold. It looked cheaply made, but impressive all the same. I couldn't comprehend the meaning of it.

Masked cultists circled it, chanting dark chants. I thought I could recognize @dollarvigilante in the circle, but I wasn't sure. But I could feel the power rushing away from the $ statue, and as I watched, the gold fell away. The rotted wood that made up the idol began to smoke and burn. The smoke flew high, straight up to the ceiling of the large chamber, and then it was gone to my eyes.

"It begins now. The new age." Where the dollar statue had been, was only a pile of ash and soot. The cultists chanted louder, and with more enthusiasm.

I watched. I witnessed

In its place, a strange glowing shape began to push out of the ash mound. It looked composed of transistors, chips and glowing pieces. An alien monument, perhaps? No, it was beginning to steam. I knew then what it was.

I gasped as it rose fully from the mount. The almighty steem had risen. It all made sense to me suddenly.
@ash looked smugly at me. "That's right. Did you really think a currency stained in blood and oil was going to last? This is the computer age. Paper is worthless! The only thing that has value in a world with so many people who all want to be united, is our creativity and discoveries. Steem allows for that."

I nodded slowly, nervously. I didn't know what to say. "I'm part of this, aren't I?"

"You are. You are a person who contributed to something amazing. Something that will change the future of our world."She was right. I smiled slowly, understanding what this meant. "Anyways, the ritual is complete, so you can go now. You've witnessed it, and seen how it is. Now go create some fantastic content."

I smiled, and went off on my way. I was going to show the world something amazing. I was going to show them my creativity.

We might need some new character for Episode III. Any suggestions? Feel free to tell us who should take part in the next Episode of the Great Steemit Party

The great Steemit Party - a fictional Story Part 1

Sort:

Loved it!! BTW, I didn't know @ash was a girl.

Isn't she? Gosh what would be embarrassing. Judging the profile picture from the chat we thought she is female

it's a fiction, so a female is a good fit for this role in my opinion ;)

We will never know

I only noticed that @ash is a cool, helpful person, so the gender matters less than the helpful attitude. =D

First! :)
Looking forward to this.

haha ... dollarvigilante, the little danger seeker :D
