You Will Never Guess What Happened To Me Today!

My Trip to the Antique Market

Today as I scavenged for a new dive in an antique shop in the Pennsylvania countryside a man came up to me, tapped my shoulder, and patiently waited for me to turn around from my folly to listen to what he had to say...

What he said opened my eyes. He spoke softly, with lowered brows and a look of sorrow on his face. "Excuse me, Sir" he whispered, "I am very sorry of what Donald Trump is saying about you people. We don't like him either, but he's taken the world by storm. Have a happy Independence Day!" He quickly was on his way, leaving me pondering about what he said.

Despite seeing the numerous "Vote for Trump!" bumper stickers in the parking lot a moment ago, I was surprised. I knew I was entering an environment with people that were more likely to question my presence in the store...or America. I was surprised, but also a bit comforted by the comment.

In my head, I processed and analyzed the man's actions. He tapped on my shoulder, acknowledging me as being different, and at the same time let me know I was an American like him by congratulating the independence of our country.

Therefore, I extend to you all...fill the void and own your labels: We are AMERICAN Sikhs, We are AMERICAN (your identifying label here). Have a happy Independence Day!

P.S. I am just a bit different, but don't let my differences deter you from getting to know me. Read my book, my story, instead of stopping at the cover.
