Exploring New Territories: First Video Essay.

One of the most repeated frequent questions I get lately is this: Short-form content, or long-form content?

My personal take is this: Both.

Yes, I know, it kind of sounds like some generic, single-serving, one-size-fits-all answer. But taking a closer look, you do get to see the benefit of both.

On one hand, there's undoubtedly a substantial part of the public that prefer short and sweet content. Which is totally valid by the way, in fact. some short-jokes I've read were so amazing that I still remember to this day.

And on the other hand, there's a special sense of happiness that comes when people tell you that they couldn't stop reading, you knew their time is precious and now you realize that you made it worth their while. Plus, a story should be as long as it needs to be.

But here's the intersting part, in the middle of the Short-Form Versus Long Form debate, there's a third form of content that always seemed to slip away unnoticed. And that, is the video form content.

Video Killed the Readio Star

This is something I've been pondering for a while, if it's time to start experimenting with video essays? And not because I think that blogging or writing is antiquated, but just to provide another channel to those who prefer watch rather than read. Hell, I myself subscribe to several Video Essay channels: The Nerd Writer, Film Radar, Lessons of the ScreenPlay...Etc.

That being said, I never tried to experiment with the same... Until today.

If You Don't Try, You Never Know

Last month I wrote a post titled "The Screen is the Pathway to the Heart" where I was exploring some thoughts about the part that entertaiment plays in setting trends, and how we could use the art of filmmaking to help spread the word about this pretty cool blockchain technology we all love and use everyday. As well as the goal we have in the @hardfork-series to introduce the technology's new and unfamiliar concepts to new audiences while keeping them entertained.

So with that mind, it's no secret that I chose that paricular post to start my very first video essay, and I'm happy to share it with you all. Without further ado, here it goes.

Please let me know your thoughts below!

P.S: If anyone wants to collaborate in future essay videos (stock footage research, music, editing..) feel free to send me a message in the chat at @the-alien. If enough people prefer video nowaday, maybe it's not such a bad idea to create that type of content as well.

Steem on everybody and great weekend to all!

a good weekend to you to mate!

You too! I hope you're having a great one as well!

Very good job...

Thank you!

welcome...

There is teaching, and there's raising questions. The first is long, the latter short. That's my take on it.

Pretty cool! I can't wait to see more of them!

Thank you Guillaume! Merci mon ami :)

its a great time when you know @the-alien just dropped a new article :D

Hey! It's great to see you again @blazing! Thanks you for the nice words :)

I'll try to post more frequently from now on.

That's more awesomeness :D

This is a great post my friend... but those Stormtroopers are awesome!

Thank you my friend!

Haha the Stormtroopers I thought it was funny and fitting, so I thought to myself "go for it". :P

Good job. Why not have video as a part of your offerings on Steemit. There are so many variables in both content and what people enjoy it would be good having all types of content, in my opinion.

Oh that was just a video essay of an already written post. But, yeah it's great to have all types of content, I totally agree! :)

Excellent article mate thanks for sharing

Thank you Cityslicker, I appreciate it. :)

Excellent work done man this was awesome

Thank you, I'm glad you like it!

Dude, your blog is incredible, is it a team effort or do you do it alone? Hey, I upped 100% and am following!

Thanks a lot man! The written blogs it's just me, but the videos are definitely team effort.

You should go for it! your content is definitely interesting!

Thank you @bananuy! I think I will do it then :)

Hey @starving! How are you doing?

Thanks a lot btw!

Both the contents are amazing if you know from where it is coming its the talent like you that matters long or short don't matter its the ingenuity that matters :)

Hey @cutiepie! Thank you very much for the nice words! I totally agree with you, all that matters is if it's something good, fun, enjoyable.. Thanks again :)

wow its really amazing, i never imagine that this blockchain and crypto currency will become like this.

Haha thank you!

welcome sir , you really did an experiment hehe , just to try it.

If people like it, maybe I'll make a few more :)

haha i think you have to make more sir. and thank for sharing this and the effort.

Just amazing ...@the-alien
keep it up..

@best of luck.

@resteem

Thank you very much! :)

You are most welcome@The Alien

I think written and video content, both have their audience. And mostly this audience is disjoint. So it may be like diving into a complete new audience, which opens new opportunities. Best of luck.

And very nice said :

If You Don't Try, You Never Know

Yeah that's a great point. Thanks by the way! And best of luck to you too.

This is totally awesome... I love seeing great jobs and good contents and to be truthful you got it all. This is sweet.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate it! :)

What was the quote? Chances come in overalls...

Video essays are quickly becoming my favorite way to learn. The visual aspects mixed with the auditory aspects hit the right notes for me.

Yeah I agree, you use more senses as well!

I liked this work and this effort, good luck.

interessant!...

P.S: Once I was asked if I was a real alien haha, so you understand why I had to clarify for just in case ;)

I think it is pretty impressive you respond to everyone!

haha I try to :) If people give me their time to read, the least I can do is to respond.

Plus.. I like it :)

Actually i remember the prespective, like a motivation explainer. Sure, mayority of the argument as usefull being perfect character of human on lives hood

So you're not the rock or the alien? Sorry I'm confused, my dear

Thank you Eyelashe! Have an awesome week as well!

and i guess its going to be awesome for sure

I hope so :)

Woaaah, that's a super professional video!

I've also figured that mixed media is more relevant today, which is why I've switched to making video journals supplemented by old-fashioned writing/ photos instead of the other way around. Might as well make use of the insane amounts of storage and bandwidth freely available! At this point, though, my videos completely lack focus and production value and are more like the ramblings of a madwoman than a coherent "essay"... once I get more comfortable speaking on camera this might be a good next step.

I think you're right, mixed media seem to be the way to go.

I don't think quality production matters so much as the content, I think you're doing great anyways :)

Btw, "Dreamy shape-shifting horse boy" What a title!

Good work would be interesting to make a short music video with that style with which you work, we are already in the future.

Haha thanks, we are in the future indeed, just the fact of using this beautiful platform is proof of it :)

that's very helpful post!!
thank you ;)

Thank you!

nice one...cool ... Thumbs up... =).
... more curation .... Do you post on D-tube yet , too ?? ...

Matter of fact, I do. Maybe I should do it more often. :)

Thank god you're not the guy in that picture above
