I start to work on Upwork in May this year. I am a data analyst so I always look for task about SAS, SQL or tableau. But as a beginner, I don't have any five star comment on Upwork so it's really difficult for me to get the first task.
今年5月的时候开始玩Upwork。因为我是一个数据分析师，所以就在Upwork上面找一些和SAS，SQL，Tableau相关的任务。但是作为一个新人，没有任何五星好评，我想说要接到一个任务真是太太太太难了！就好像一家新开的淘宝店要卖出第一件商品一样。
But miracle will always happen. One day, a guy called Nil released a task about SAS, attached with a long long Word file to explain the attributes of data and his requirements. The price was $20. It's not an attractive price and it's not easy to fulfill this task. But as a beginner, I just wanted to get the first task. So I wrote a cover letter to him and talked about the task with him on Upwork. To my surprise, he hired me!
但是奇迹总是会有的。有一天，一个叫Nil的人（全名看起来好像是个巴基斯坦哥们），发布了一个关于SAS的任务，附了一个长长的Word文档来解释数据的字段和相关要求。价格是20刀。虽然价格并不诱人，难度也不低，但是我是一个新人，于是我写了一封信给他，讨论了一下他的要求，很意外的，他Hire了我！
I was so excited! I began to run his data on SAS University. But I didn't find out the best method at first. I used a much complicated method and got a little progress.
于是我好像打鸡血了一样，开始用SAS University跑他的数据。刚开始一直没有想到最好的思路，用了比较复杂的方法，勉强有了一些进展。
The next day, he contacted me and asked about the task. I told him about the progress and difficulty. He said,' I know it's not easy. I have thought about it for several days. I am happy that you have made some progress. Thank you so much! Even though you can't figure it out at last, I will pay you and write positive comments for you.' At the same time, I found he changed the price from $20 to $50. I was surprised and deeply moved. I said I will try my best to figure it out.
第二天，他来找我，问我做完了吗？我说了一下目前的进展和困难。 他说，我知道这个问题很难，我已经想了好几天。但是你有了一些进展，谢谢你！即使你最终不能做出来， 我也会给你这笔钱和五星好评。这时候，我发现他主动把20美金改成了50美金。很意外很感动，即使没有什么规则限制，一个素不相识的外国友人心中竟然如此注重公平。我说我会尽力。
Finally I thought out the best method when I was having lunch that day. I used the shortest and quickest code to solve his problem. He was so happy and paid me quickly. Than he gave me five start comments with a lot of nice words. After that, he always contact me when he has new tasks.
在吃饭的时候我终于想到了最佳的方法，用最简洁的代码最快地完成了他的要求。他很开心，很爽快地付钱了，给我写了长长的五星好评。之后有新的任务也经常会找我。
Now we communicate by email and pay on PayPal. He always asks me to decide the price. Sometimes I will give a pice range. For example, $30 to $50, then he will always pay $50. Sometimes if I don't want to decide the price and ask him to pay randomly, he will pay a higher price, which is beyond my exception, and pay the service charge for me. We have never signed any contract. We don't know each other's real name. I never push him to pay. And we never bargain. But he believe I am responsible. He always says, take your time, Sylvia. And I believe he won't let me suffer on money and he will always provide support when I am doing the task.
后来我们就变成了邮件往来，用PayPal支付。每次他都让我报价，有时候我会给出一个价格范围，比如30-50刀，他就一定会付50刀。如果我不好意思报价，让他随便付，他总会付一个超出我预期的价格，还会主动付手续费。我们之间没有签过合同，不知道对方是谁，我也从来没有催过他付钱，没有过讨价还价。但是，他相信我会很负责地完成他的任务。他总是对我说，慢慢来好了，不着急。我相信他不仅不会亏待我，还会在我做任务的过程中提供支持。
Of course, not every employer on Upwork is so nice. There is another employer, who wants to find someone to translate very old medical books (written in ancient Chinese), but only pay $8/page. And some employers don't want to make any positive comment even if they are satisfied with the result.
当然，并不是每一个UPwork上的雇主都这样。我知道有的雇主，想找人翻译医学古书（翻译成英文），满满一页只愿意付8刀。或者明明做完了任务，并且很满意，但之后就不再回复，不愿意写几句好评。
But when I meet with a new stranger, I will still choose to be sincere and true to him/her. I will trust him and expect to build a long-term relationship with him. Birds of a feather flock together.
但是，这并不妨碍我在遇见一个新的陌生人的时候，真诚地对待他，相信他，并期待与他建立长久且信任的关系。我相信心怀真诚的人，一定可以吸引同类人。
