RE: I Am Sorry for My Last Post!

in #story7 years ago

Hmm... Steemit account creation is horrible and is likely holding back the growth. I do understand some of the reason for this lengthy process. However, a pay to register service is not really a solution. It is simply an alternative. A helpful but albeit horrible alternative that costs money, and ultimately turns off casual users.

We could take the position that if someone isn't willing to either wait a week or so or longer they should be willing to invest(pay) in creating an account. This is so asinine of an assumption that google is riddled with complaints of this problem and the only thing Steemit or a community member or members have come up with as a solution is a pay to play service.

I'm not knocking the service. From what I believe is understood, this was created by a helpful community member, and why not get paid for what is offered. But Steemit should be on top of this like last year. Steemit has made all the noise about SMTs and the plethora of developments around steemit, but has yet to conquer the most basic aspect of participation on the platform itself. Account Creation.

Bottom line, whatever alternative is or isn't offered it isn't a good enough excuse to have left this down the priority list for so long. Period. Other than a lengthy post pointing users to Anon service, this post adds to the problem. Ignoring the problem with account creation by passing along a pay service lets the devs off the hook. This would not be tolerable on any other serious website.

After comments I read from community members asking for the job of whoever runs the steemit twitter account while the site was down from the DDoS attack, I am horrified that much of the community continues to brush this aside, mainly because a pay service exists.

Last remark. We as a community are already on this side of the problem. Potential users trying to get in are on the outside. The problem needs to be viewed from that perspective. A pay service is a bit absurd from that point of view. If the user has barely dabbled in or is a novice to cryptocurrency the fact that the service is only accessible through crypto as a method of payment is a rational enough reason to understand that a pay service, that only takes crypto as payment should be unacceptable, even as a short term solution.

It turns off or confuses too many potential users. If you all are trying to be truly "helpful", then stop making excuses for this shortcoming. Any serious website hoping to be taken seriously with no real solution to a long term account creation problem can be likened to an ico not having a whitepaper.
