Should All Steem Members Have Equal Voting Rights? Please Read and Comment. Vote or not. Go Steem!!!

in #story8 years ago

Imagine a world where your vote is worth less than the next mans vote. Imagine a world where the weight of your vote is directly linked to the amount of money in your bank account. Imagine if the people with power only voted for themselves and their interest while controlling the money supply and the only way to get more voting power would be to give them your money to hold so they become even more powerful. Not only do they control the money but they control the bank as well and your bank account. You can deposit...you can withdraw...you can vote, however; your vote has no power and you have no money.

       So...you sing and dance an and perform for the masses trying to get votes to increase your money...to increase your voting power...and you look up the road and see a crowd. All of the Big voters are there being followed by the Medium voters and the Medium voters are being followed by the Small. You push your way through the crowd to see what's going on and there's a person and for whatever reason the Big voters are voting for that person and even though a majority of the crowd may or may not like that person the Big voter outweighs your vote 100 to 1. Now this once small voter is a Big voter isn't that what everybody wants?

        You ask the Bigs why they voted for that person and you get no answer...you're to small. So you ask the Mediums why they voted and they reply that if they vote for this person maybe the Bigs or that person will vote for them. You ask the smalls why they voted and they reply that they are just following the bandwagon trying to get a vote. Remember...votes are everything. It's what keeps you alive. So you and sing and dance harder then you ever have before and get 10 to 15 small votes and a medium one. Wow 16 votes...I'm sure that's worth something. Then a Big comes along laughing saying,"Look at them sing and dance for our pleasure and profit...I admit they are good...damn good... but they'll never get my vote. I only vote for things that I like...like women, and people to kiss my ass, and people just like me". "These minnows will never get my vote...I'm a Whale, I eat minnows to stay strong, why would I turn a minnow into a whale"?

       So the cycle goes on and on. People performing for Whales hoping to get a vote. Then something happens.

You notice something. You notice thousands of minnows leaving the crowd which gets the attention of the dolphins. Then thousands of dolphins leave which gets the attention of the Whales. "What is this" a Big says. "What's going on"? And I reply, "There's a really big Whale over there spreading around equal voting power to the dolphins, and the minnows, and everyone is performing for him. I'm going over there too". "Wait"...a Big says. "We'll give you our vote if you just stay". And I reply, "They're not leaving because you wouldn't give them a vote, They're leaving because over there they perform for each other...and with equal voting power...the quality of performance is more entertaining". "They aren't performing the the whale, they're performing for the crowd". "When everyone has an equal vote... you have no choice but to perform for the crowd". "People aren't leaving for the quantity over their vote, they are leaving for the quality of the content". "Everyone wants to be entertained, not just the whale, but the dolphins and the minnows". "Isn't that what you want"? The Bigs look at me and say, "We want power". I reply, "Without minnows, how will you survive"? "Without dolphins and minnows, you have no power".

Please. Don't be a Big. It costs you nothing to share your power. There are a lot of Steemers that deserve your vote.

Thank You,

Sharkolate.

Marvelous post, and worded beautifully @sharkolate!

Personally, I have only ever up-voted, and I have spent
at least 90+% of my time on here up-voting posts honestly;
Not just for the sake of #up-voting, but for when I see quality/useful
content & responses that I feel are deserving of reward in any/every form.

Also, strategic #holding of 90+% my worth in SP, opposed to Steem or SMD, was a conscious action on my part after I realized that I spend the large majority of my efforts here just reading and up-voting.
