Hey Steemians! I personally have and run a Youtube channel based on Gaming and am absolutely shocked and sickened by how Youtube is running and how Youtubers who promote nothing but absolute "stupidity" are being throttled by Youtube themselves into having huge audiences and following reaching millions. A particular issue has recently blown up on Youtube around the popular Youtuber "Logan Paul". Logan Paul has over 15 million subscribers on Youtube and is always seemed to be favored by Youtube being on their "Trending" page almost always and being let to break various Youtube policies and guidelines Logan Paul had recently visited Japan, where he visited the "Aokigahara" also known as the suicide forest. Logan Paul posted a video on Youtube (Which has been removed ever since) visiting the forest. Throughout the video, Logan Paul and his other friends seemed to be making light of the situation and laughing and being hysterical, not being able to comprehend how serious the place they were visiting was. Furthermore, Logan Paul found a person who was deceased and continued to make light of the situation and goes on making jokes and laughing. He further had the audacity to zoom into the person and say things along the line "Have you never taken a picture with a dead body?". After he posted his video his video went onto the trending page, which was manually selected by a Youtube staff member and received close to 6 million views and over 600k likes. Majority of his audience includes kids ranging from 6 all the way to 15 who have continued to support him even after this incident. Logan Paul further used a picture of himself along with the deceased person as the thumbnail which further disgusted me that he would do so. He further defended himself by saying he is "22" and should be "forgiven". I have lost immense respect for this Youtuber and Youtube in general by the way things are run on that platform.
Logan Paul is also a movie star who has starred in famous movies such as "Baywatch" and "The Thinning". Logan Paul has also been on the Jimmy Kimmel show.
I would further like to emphasize if you are a parent who watches a lot of Youtube, please take time to talk to your child and look into what they watch, they are the future generation and need to be given more attention.
Youtube has always favored a few specific Youtubers which has boosted them to such a high extent while has not supported smaller content creators with quality content and who are trying to make a real difference. This is one of the main reasons why I personally think Steemit will have the power with more changes and improvements to compete or even replace Youtube in the next 4 to 5 years. Youtube has had very broad demonization policies which have hurt and left a lot of Youtubers struggling to get through.
I would like to end by saying mental health is nothing to make fun of, it is a very real issue and needs to be addressed with more seriousness. If you are going through anything and feel overwhelmed, there are people to help you out. Reaching for help does not make you weak, it makes you stronger because you understand yourself and are trying to help yourself get better. I would love to be able to help anyone else who needs it but can only help to such an extent
This topic was not meant to be controversial and would like to seen this as an opinion piece. If this has caused anyone any distress, I would like to deeply apologize but would like to further emphasize this is a very important topic and WE CANNOT HAVE ANYONE WITH A LARGE FOLLOWING MAKE LIGHT OF DEPRESSION AND SUICIDE.
I would futher like to end by saying this video is not meant to harm or promote violence against any specific entity, this is purely my opinion and views on a recent topic.
Thank you for your time, if you could try and help anyone who is in need of help and please do not try to put down anyone, you might not be able to understand or know what the person is going through.
