COMP NOW CLOSED! Here Is My 7 Day Topic Challenge- PS, I need YOUR help with topic 7...

in #story7 years ago (edited)

Now, if you are a regular reader, you may know that I do like to blog about different things, and that is because I am filling my website with categorised blogs about entertainment, fun, tarot, life travel and culture. Things I am very passionate about. (www.theimmaturestudent.com)

Sorry, that was a shameless plug.

It is my quest to share my knowledge. If you saw my previous post you will understand why this is important to me.

To show my versatility as a writer I am doing a 7 day challenge to blog a different category everyday.

My 7 day Topic Challenge

  1. Tarot
  2. Philosophy
  3. Arts & Humanities
  4. Law Of Attraction
  5. Working From Home
  6. Healthy Living
  7. Short Story (Steemit led)

So, why do I need your help?

I am a new writer who has written two screenplays a novel, and five short stories within a two year period (Only recently published) I am also a creative writing student and I want to show my versatility as a writer.

I would like to write a new short story, 1,000 words from a one line prompt. One that I am hoping one of you wonderful commenters will provide. I will ask one of my peers to pick one for me out of the comments

It can be any genre, and any topic (EXCLUDING EROTICA- Sorry that would be disastrous)

Example

My step-sister wanted to be written into a book as a small character. She gave me a description , her fictional name and the occupation.

I had the nickname, 'killer', who was a small dark haired lady preparing to retire from a 35 year stint as a detective.

I made a 5,000 word story with that person in a book that I later published.

What I am looking for this time, is something similar, or a situation. You can even choose as to whether you want it third, second or third person.

Just give a sentence as to who, what and why.

That is my 7 Day Topic Challenge!

"Kitty had never believed in anything mystical. So when she saw the unicorn at the bottom of her garden, she thought one of the neighborhood boys was playing a prank on her. Or maybe she was finally going mad." (Kitty is a 40 year old lawyer, who has just been instructed by the firm's partners to take 6 weeks off, after a grueling case.)

A couple of people have said to me I should write more fiction and I reply - I don't get any inspiration from inside, but sometimes something from outside triggers something. Well, I think I just proved myself wrong. So whether or not this gets chosen for you, I might see if it takes me anywhere. If we both end up writing it, it will be fascinating to compare them.

EDIT, 2 hours later - Being a Saturday, I sat here in my dressing gown and let Kitty's story unfold, and it's done! A bit longer, at 1900 words. If this gets chosen for you, I'll wait till you've posted your version, before posting mine. But if it doesn't get chosen, I'll post it straight away.

OOOh I like your style, very impressed that you ran with it! That's creative writing at it's best ! Thank you :-)

I’ll be watching for both!

Wah! You have accomplished so much within 2 years, truly amazing!! My one liner: The great divide

Ooooh, now is that short sentence opening up an array of existing ideas, or forcing me to think outside the box? I like your style, and thank you!

Man, that’s really open ended but it could lead to an awsome story!

Oh I like this. I have a post written up in my notebook at home about Law of Attraction and I recently did a post that briefly goes into Law Of Attraction. Very much looking forward to these next 7 days from you!

One dark, cold and gloomy night there was the sound of what seemed like a monster coming from the other side of the bushes. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that a baby dragon had just cracked his egg. Startled and frightened the dragon flew away, fire steadily flowing from inside of his mouth...

Lol I'm no good att writing stories. I know you said one line but I couldn't help myself to have a little fun with it :)

I heart dragons so much!!!

I looovve this idea! =)

Let me try be spontaneous...

"Suddenly, all she knew was that she felt powerfully warm and tingly all over... She didn't know where she was, or even who she was, or why she was floating several stories above the ground. Below, everyone was pointing and staring."

lol... So, there you have it. Sorry, not one sentence. Hope you can work with it!

Love this...thank you !

Sorry, somehow missed this last message! Sure will. Results are in...https://steemit.com/story/@sarahewaring/topic-challenge-let-me-write-your-story-results

Heya.. Just a reminder to send that e-mail =) And I'd also be very curious to know what you thought of my Day 10 assignment post ^^

Sorry, I have been rubbish with replies. Will do this later.😄

Ooh, I think this is my favourite. All of the suggestions are interesting, but this one really grabs me.

Great idea - I can't wait to see what you come up with!

For what it's worth, here is my one-sentence suggestion for the Day 1 topic:

  • Tarot, the talking parrot, peered down at me from his perch above the card table and squawked, “Here we go again!”

All the best. :)

Brilliant...! I feel like could have a very comedic edge with a moral tale...

What a good idea! I look forward reading the first six posts, as for number seven:

A terrified ginger haired orphan boy of three wakes from a nightmare to find himself in a cabbage patch, surrounded by females of all ages, no man had ever existed on this strange plant.

Thankyou...and wow, what a sentance to play with!

Your welcome, I thought it would be fun. I love ginger hair, plus we are adopting and it will more than likely be a boy between 18months and three years.

Ahhh how cute! Oh and congratulations. My friend adopted two 3 years ago, they have never been happier xx

That's good to hear, there are some horror stories too, I prefer the good ones. It looks like another two years but that gives me time to establish myself on steemit. :-)

Another beautiful post! Great job. Awesome challenge, I may employ something similar soon. I've been looking for a way to get people more engaged with my fiction. Critique. Check your grammar and punctuation. Especially in your writing prompt examples, I got confused. I think there are some missing commas, perhaps? You've gotten 51 views on this already. and 13 votes before mine! Nicely done.

Thank you, yes i can see a couple of comma errors, I need a new way of editing, grammarly doesnt work on this editor unfortunately. (new thing to look at) thanks for your comments :-)

Ps edited as I can see on my phone... Will have another look later.

Hi! love your ideas! ... And I have a few , so I hope one of them works for you... ummm maybe you can write about how the people who always tries to make everybody happy, or make them laugh are the most depressive ones.... a story like I lived, my husband knew me in a transportation from collage, and at that moment we were like 15 guys in a van, we were really uncomfortable ,and I was literally sit in the handle of the door in the back of the van, so he say: hey just sit here , we exchange the sits, like the tipically story "He offered me his position, so I could be comfortable", since that we started to talk by messenger and facebook, and after 2 years of him trying , and trying, and always asking me to be his girlfriend I finally said yes( I had other reasons why I always said no) .. three years later we got married on December 3 of 2017
