Cat Trouble

Christian moved slowly down the stairs like a panther approaching its prey, he and his brother wanted some fruit juice, but there were both scared to go downstairs by midnight.

So he and Christopher always flipped a coin to determine who would fetch anything they needed at Night, they had moved into the building newly after the death of their father.

He was a pilot and had died in a plane crash on a flight from Lagos to Accra, but the money from his life insurance will be enough to provide for his family needs.

They had heard stories about their new house from their new friend next door, Tony told them of how the previous owner who was a strange old man, had died under mysterious circumstances, he had told them he had once seen the man’s ghost when coming home from a vigil with his parents.

The boys always heard strange noises in the house at night, and it always seems that a being moved around the house at night, he went past the dining area and stood there for a seconds admiring the cake that his mother spent most of the day preparing for a customer’s wedding anniversary.

He proceeded to the fridge and took the fruit juice and started making his way back to the bedroom, he got to the corridor and froze, sitting under stairs was a huge black cat, he must have missed it on his way down because he was backing the stairs.

He wondered where the cat was from and how it got into the house, he dropped the juice gently on the ground and reached for a mop that was left standing on, near the wall by his mom, all his efforts to scare the cat proved abortive, luckily for him he had his phone in his pockets, he texted Christopher and told him to find his way downstairs.

Christopher nearly jumped out of his skin when he saw the cat, it was as if the presence Of Christopher made the cat realize that it was out numbered, it jumped on the table in the corridor and squeezed itself through an open space in the window, the boys could not figure out what attracted the cat to their home, they just hoped it never returned.

The next day their next door neighbor explained the mystery of the cat when they told him about it, it belonged to Mr Sam, the previous occupant of the house.
