The last week of 2017 was marked by a truly unique robbery. Someone stole the most expensive bottle of vodka in the world from the Copenhagen bar where it was displayed. The bottle, made of gold, silver and diamonds, and valued at $ 1.3 million has just appeared a bit dented and empty.
The origin of the bottle goes back to 1912. That year, the Russian pilots Nagel and Mikhailoff competed in the Monte Carlo rally aboard a Russo-Baltique car. Although they did not win, the feat of finishing the race captivated the Russian public.
Years later, the company responsible for the Russo-Baltique, Dartz Motorz, decided to commemorate that race with a very special bottle of vodka. The bottle is made of three kilos of gold embossed in silver and decorated with diamonds and an original leather emblem of 1912. It is said that the vodka inside was distilled from pure water extracted from snow of the French Alps.
The existence of this bottle is perfectly explained if we look at the cars manufactured by Dartz. The company specializes in ultra luxury armored SUVs that cost more than one and a half million dollars. Among the extras available are extravagances like handles made of white gold with diamonds and inlaid rubies, tungsten exhaust or whalebone leather upholstery.
Indifferent to tungsten or whale penises, an unidentified individual entered the Cafe 33 in Copenhagen and, after a while spent among the vodkas that make up the collection of historic drinks in the place, he took the bottle of Dartz.
The thief gave a good account of the vodka, but for unknown reasons decided to return the container, which appeared at the entrance of an office building in a district north of the city. The police suspect that upon discovering the history of the bottle, the malefactor became nervous and decided not to take any chances. The founder of Dartz Motorz Leonard F. Yankelovich announced that he would send personnel from Russia to recover the container. That detail probably also helped the thief to decide.
Yankelovich has announced that he will restore the bottle and refill it to return it to its place. The police are still investigating to unravel the case, although with the recovered bottle is no longer a priority. [via New York Times,]
