The Kid and The Water Buffalo

in #story6 years ago (edited)

I was walking through the outskirts of Lai Chau (Vietnam) when I came across this little boy herding his big friend with a stick. TSSST TSSST, he'd say and the big one would move along. "Hi!" I said. He yelled back "HI!" with a shit-eating grin. Figuring the boy would know bare minimum English, if any, since he lived in a mountainous hill tribe that spoke their own language called Mong, i said simply "Is this your cow?"

"No!" He shouted back, then climbed up one terrace tier of the paddy field and hoisted himself over the animal's back.

"My water buffalo!"

How amazing these little kids are to pick up languages and vocabulary through interaction with tourists!!!

I managed to snap this moment shared between the pair before they rode away. It is by far my favorite photo I've captured on this mess of a trip.

That's such a nice and tremendous image you have captured. A small boy riding a wild jungle buffalo. It needs a lot of courage to do so. Hats off to your photography and also the image.

Nice one dude 📷✌️

This is showing a close connection between people and animals. And your picture is beautiful!

Indeed it is remarkable, the connection seems much stronger than in (more) developed countries! Amazing.

Yes, you are right.

wow ... what a photo :)

Thanks so much @vox00!

Mayor fotografía la que has logrado.
Me encanto @martinphoto

amazing picture martin!

how this boy isnt afraid to climb on that buffalo

buena fotografía increíble el niño no tiene miedo para montarse el búfalo

How amazing that such a little one is riding on this big creatures back, holding on to nothing but the animals back. Kids are such naturals.

Travelling really does broaden your horizons. Who would have guessed that this youngster would correct you in your own tongue - brilliant! It’s a fabulous country with great people and an even better future!

Great story:-) The picture also.

buena foto, es impresionante q el niño pequeño este montado en ese animal.

Nice click.

Eh ADEK awas jatuh ya👍👌😀

Excellent bro. Thanks for the nice picture taken.

Hi @martinphoto
Exquisite photography.
I am new in this community and just learning photography, please help me to be like you

I had a similar interaction in South Korea minus the water buffalo lol.

One early morning admittedly after a night of drinking I was standing on the sidewalk and a young buy peddled up to me on his tricycle. I gave him a smile not expecting much in return until he said, "Good morning!". I was a bit caught of guard at first and then proceeded to have a quick conversation with him before his father told him it was time to get going. The English language is taught to the much of the youth in other countries.
