ART WORK MY ADULT DRAWING CLASS ( fourth week )

This first drawing was a homework assignment of one of
my students. I stress that practice makes better. There is
no serious achievement without consistent and hard work.
That is real life lesson my friends. The problem l often have is some
people in my class room come in with a defeated attitude.

They should magically draw at a high skill level in one
class period. Well let’s put it this way. Yes if acquiring skill
was easy what would you have to strive for. By my calculations nothing.
Some of them complain the moment they pick up a number two
pencil about how bad the drawing looks.

I am a art instructor not Jesus or God! You get what you put in.
That goes for everything including life! It really upsets me!
Six of my students quit because they couldn’t handle the
drawing exercise l gave them in class to loosen up.

It is quite evident through the success of other people that repetition pays off.
You can only improve with practice. No magical pill exists. Not on
this planet. I was always told that if you want to become knowledgeable
about something you must be willing to learn.

To acquire a certain style of drawing you must invest time
in refining your skills and make time to study the technique.
In laymans terms doodle twenty minutes a day, read up on
how to use the medium you are working with. Make no excuses.
They only sound good to people who use them.

This student took time and worked on the assignment.
They took it seriously and that’s what l command in my
class. When you walk into my classroom it’s time to get
busy and start learning. Yes some adults bring their lazy
attitude in with them and don’t pay attention.

Guess what! I am not there to babysit. Wasn’t in the job
qualifications. So the description for the class will be
changed to. Learn free hand pencil, pen and ink drawing
techniques, hatching and cross hatching , contour drawing.
