The Soldier's Wife

A soldier just got posted to a war zone, he cried a night before leaving. His wife was heavily pregnant and he wouldn't be there for her during childbirth. In the morning, he hugged and kissed his wife as he departed. His heart was heavy but his nation came first at the present state.

His wife knew what was at stake when she decided to marry him. Her heart was heavy too but she had to be strong for the man she loved more than anyone in the entire world. She promised to write as many times as she could.

TWO MONTHS LATER

Sara was in the labor room without her husband, she was stronger than before. After an hour, she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. He looked just like his father. Just then, his memories flooded her thoughts. Tears rolled down her face. She has not heard from him since he left.

"What if her messages never delivered? What if something is wrong? If only he was here." Her heart was flooded with thoughts.

Two days later, she was discharged from the hospital. She put a call to the State quarters to ask if they had heard from her husband but the answer was still the same, NO.

She brought out a paper and poured her heart all over it. "If he doesn't reply this last one, that is the end of John." She thought as she poured out all her emotions. When she was through, she prayed over the letter till her tears dropped on it. The next day, she mailed it.

Meanwhile, at the war front, John and his team were ambushed and abducted by the refugees. He was the only survivor when the alpha team came in to rescue them. He was in coma and taken to the medical unit.

For 5 days, they tried all their possible best to revive him but proved abortive. The commander instructed the senior doctor to watch him for two more days before they radio the state quarters about the incidence.

After the due date, the state quarters were informed and they visited Sara to inform her about the incidence and ask for her decision whether to pull the plug or bring him home in coma (which will take a very long period of time due to the war). She was shocked down to her marrow but her spirit was lifted and spoke:

"I wrote him a letter some days back, kindly read it to him continually. I believe he will wake up."

"What if he doesn't?" General Mark asked.

"He is my husband, I know him. He will wake up and if not, pull the plug." Her faith was stronger than ever.

General Mark left with his entourage and put a call to the commander to inform him of Sara's decision. It sounded so absurd to all of them. As they left, she knelt down with her baby in her arms and cried her eyes out as she prayed.

The doctor got the letter from the commander and sat very close to John to read it to him in front of the commander and other interested officials.

Dear John,

I write this letter to you with a heavy heart. Our baby arrived few days back and look just like you. We miss you and want you to know we are praying for your safe return. I have written you many times without reply and not a positiveword from the authority. I know you are fine because the bond of love between us is still strong from my end. Wherever you are right now, my love is with you to guide and protect you. I love you more than the sun loves light, more than the bees love honey.

Imagine me singing you our favourite song right now. This is the lyrics.

Fortunately, the doctor knew the song - it was My love by Sia. He sang it slowly and when he got to the second verse, John's right hand moved. He continued to sing till his eyes opened to the amazement of everyone. Tears of joy dropped from the doctor's face, it was a miracle to him. The commander called the state quarters to update them, they were shocked too.

For the first time in months, Sara was happy. Thew news healed her sad heart. She danced all over the house with her baby and sang the same song severally. Two weeks later, John came back home, he was excused to get adequate treatment. He united with his wife once again and was glad to see the new guy in their lives. He named his son Victor as soon as they got home. They lived happily ever after.

The End.
