Perseverance
Right now when we break a light bulb, we just change it. But back in 1878, it wasn't very convenient. Thomas performed about 1000 tries until he built a working light bulb.
Positive Attitude
Despite the many trials, Thomas maintained a positive attitude and said "I did not fail, I found 1000 ways not to build a working light bulb."
Compassion
It took his team 24 hours just to build one light bulb. Thomas asked a young boy to connect the bulb to an outlet upstairs. The boy was so nervous as he carefully climbed the flight of stairs. Just as he was about to reach the top, he accidentally let the bulb fall and shattered it. Thomas didn't get angry, he calmly asked "Are you alright? Did the broken glass hurt you?" The boy hurriedly apologized. Thomas then told his team to rest and build another bulb later.
Forgiveness
It took another 24 hours to build another light bulb. Thomas asked the same young boy to connect the bulb. This time the boy successfully accomplished his mission. People around asked Thomas "Why didn't you ask another boy to carry the bulb instead? Aren't you afraid of that the same accident would occur?" Thomas replied "If I asked another boy to do it, then that means I haven't forgiven the boy."
True forgiveness is not just by words but by action.
