Ah ah, why has she been calling me? I thought aloud, looking very confused and anxious, so I called back immediately using my etisalat line in order to get a quick response since she doesn't really have my airtel line, but I didn't have airtime in my etisalat line. Oooooh no!! I was depressed and very anxious, mum has never called me in this manner, I just have to call her in a way I thought to myself......
.......... Hello, hello, mummy, mummy it's me, its me Ify, hello mummy can you hear me? She has picked the call, but kept talking to someone else as though she has been involved in a quarel with a customer, hello hello onye? She asked in igbo , sounding angry and disgusted, mummy it's me, me Ify, I can't believe you could do this to me after trusting you so much, I will deal with you, just wait let my husband locate you, I heard her saying these to someone else over the phone. Mummy mummy, what is happening? Mummy oooo, look at this fool oo, do you know how I labour to make money? And you came to steal it, ahhh I've been dealing with a thief oo, I heard her say this probably to the same person, another thief? In the shop? Has been caught? I have to be in the shop right now....
Conductor, drop me here oo, driver dropping dey o, I shouted, before the driver brought the bus to a halt, I stretched out my hand and gave the driver #50.
Mile 3 in ph, is a very busy market, and a very busy park too, but that day it seemed more busy than ever, my mum's shop was just close to the maim road. A lot of people had gathered in front of our shop, I could see a police van by the side, and police men trying to dismiss the crowd, wetin happen? I heard people ask another with anxiety in their eyes, Ah! What a wicked world I heard one man shout, with his hands shaking his head as tho one had died, it seems as tho the police men were just arriving the scene, as people began leaving, shaking their heads, Na that man oo, I heard one woman said with a sign of pity and disgust written on her face. At once, the earth's movement ceased, everything was still in my eyes, only thoughts were moving freely in my mind, what happened?, which man? Where is my dad? Tears were already running out of my eyes like a tap when turned on!!
I've suffered enough within a short period of time, I've been staying in mum's shop. It was the long vacation, and I just decided to assist my mum in her business, while assisting her, she became very free to do other things, it wasn't easy as everyone has known me to be a newbie in the block, so at one point they played on my intelligence, thanks to God, I was a bit smart.
I had only one person to help me in the work at the shop and that was my cousin, my favorite cousin at that, and my mum loves and trusts him so much, so I too had no option left than to trust him too.
In the month of October, things had really changed, I started losing big amount of money that I couldn't give account for, my parents lost complete trust in me, they thought I had a boyfriend somewhere that I always sent the money to everyday, or I keep the money in my bank account. It pained me a lot to realize that my parents has completely lost trust in me, so my mum decided that I shouldn't be going to the shop as she couldn't see the truth in all I've said to her, I decided to Simon the case to the most high God, so I fasted and prayed sincerely, with the pain in my heart, that God should intervene.......
So just this morning I've missed my mum's call for ten times, and that was a bit unusual, and here I am standing filled with fear, what must have really happened?
At once I regained consciousness, and then I saw my cousin Chidi being escorted to the police van the anxiety in my face was too obvious to be hidden.
Mummy mummy, o gini mere, what happened? I said while examining her body for any mark, she had a teary eyes, that stupid boy called chidi is responsible for all the money we've been losing in this shop, now tears rushed down her eye, at once my heart missed five beats, and I almost collapsed, Chidi, why will he do that? After all the love that have been showered on him, is that his ungrateful humans can be? Thank God he's exposed now.
My dad arrived some minutes later, and my mum narrated how Chidi had confessed all his evil doings after she had caught him red handed trying to steal the money she kept in the cupboard.
My eyes had become swollen as they had to cry uncontrollable, I felt horrible for having to trust a human the way I did. But I was grateful, God had intervened. My parents looked at me, filled with pity, I guess they must be very sorry for disbelieving me ......
This world is a wicked place, be careful who you trust, most people can be selfish.....
I remain your favourite.
Interesting point of view. Though I know you get what you put in.
Let's see all the beauty life has to offer and learn to give people the gift of trust.
I'm not gonna believe this is real, perhaps your tag(fiction) confirms it... Lest I'll be sad you never told me...
