It was the last day of work just before Christmas 2016. Happy already having been told we could leave work early, I started my journey back home to pack and get ready for the holidays, when a friend texted me: sewing machines in Lidl!
Now, I had never used a sewing machine before, nor was I very skilled when it came to sewing just a button! I don't know if it was the excitement of the holidays or the fact that I had been spending the last month thinking of everybody else, buying presents for the whole family and so on, but very quickly researched "Singer Tradition 2282". Not much I could find online, but that didn't stop me from getting of the bus early and went to check out this machine.
Less than 10 minutes later I'd say, I was paying for the machine and started to walk home with it. It was a bit heavy yeah, but I was so happy. After 10-15 minute walk the machine was starting to feel heavier and heavier. I kept walking until I could not carry it any more and decided to call for help.
When the help came we looked at each other and just started to laugh. He helped me carry the machine the rest of the way home at which point I started to realised what was after happening...
I looked at the machine and the last hour started to turn into reality, OMG! What had I done? What did I even want this for?
So the machine sat at the shelf for the holiday season staring at me, making me feel guilty for such a silly purchase.
But, the new year came and I ordered some nice material online. And today I completed my first project ever!
A pillow case! With a lovely matrioshka design. The quality of my stitching is far from good and I still have so much to learn, but I feel happy and excited about this new hobby that found me completely by chance.
A little bag using some left over materials.
Hello @ishtar, welcome to Steemit! :-)
Thank you!
Oh I want to get into sewing... Never have time to set down and do it though. But I will look forward to see some of your creations!!
Thanks for reading, I never had the chance to do anything like this before either. You never know when new opportunities may show at your door!
