What Happens When Truths Are Left Untold...

When the truth is untold - shit happens!

In 1917, Colonel George Patton was looking for a good location for a Tank Training School.

One of the places he visited and stayed in was a village called Bourg in France.

One day, Colonel Patton was approached by the village mayor who was in
tears…

The village mayor wanted to know why Patton had not told them about the fallen soldier that had been buried in village…

Patton was confused as he did not think there was any such casualty, so the mayor said he would take him to the grave.

When they arrived at the grave, Patton saw the mound of earth...

...with a ‘cross’ that bore the name “Abandoned Rear”

It was the place that the soldiers had been using to do their business in, a latrine pit.

Patton didn’t explain to the mayor the real identity of “Abandoned Rear”.

27 years later, during World War 2, when it was no longer Colonel Patton, but General Patton, he visited Bourg again and was welcomed and he discovered that the grave of “Abandoned Rear” was being tended and maintained by the villagers.

Ahhw so nice of those people, that they took care of the grave of this lovely soldier fighting for their country. This is really an example of doing something for an other without getting anything back

Yes, it was nice that they took such good care of the grave.

Is the moral of this story "Shit Happens?"

Pretty much. Or if you let people think something, without correcting it, it can go way out of proportion!

That is so true.

lol! I laughed so hard at this one! Patton, being one of my favorite historical figures, it sounds just like something he would do! Thank you so much for the story of his that I had never heard before! Amazing what people think when they don't have all the facts.

Great, I'm glad you liked it.

I remember reading the story in Patton's book. It was a real pleasure to have the story retold. Thanks Hope.

Excellent, I'm glad it was a pleasure.

LMAO! That was funny @hopehuggs. Gosh imagine finding out that you have been diligently tending a latrine; I will just find a quiet spot, dig myself in and pass out of embarrassment.
It is good that the truth of a matter be revealed, because it mostly leads to embarrassment when discovered later.

😂 nice one.

I thought it was really funny too.

Hope this is real story;) it easily could be, but couldn’t confirm it. fun anyway.

It is supposedly a true story, yes.

Interesting storyline about general Patton and it's tank training school. I believe the story has part two. Because am interested to know how it's finally ends. Interesting post @hopehuggs

Nope that's it, @obest, on this occasion.
