The Story of the Crabs in the Sand

in #story7 years ago

A man was walking along the beach and saw another man fishing in the surf with a pile of crabs beside him. As he drew closer, he saw that the pile was full of live crabs.
"Why don't you put them in a bucket, so the crabs won't escape?", he said.
"You don't understand.", the man replied, "If I put the crabs in a bucket, they might crawl out."
So it is with people ...

Lol - Interesting adaptation of the cb analogy in the whitepaper - which was a flawed analogy of 'human nature' - evidenced by the fact that hardly anyone flags shit posting!

With linear rewards, we have no bucket to begin with.

But yeah: That was the main idea :)

It's an interesting thought to reinvent the analogy for sure... I did cringe when I read it.

The original analogy is so broken, I had no other choice than sarcasm.

This is worthy to think about

Thank you !

I thought about it and...I still don't get it...

Me neither.

After reading your story I somehow have to think of a song by Knorkator: Setz Dich hin!

"Rule number 1 of my game: You need freedom but only as a feeling"
(Die Regel Nummer 1 in meinem Spiel, Ihr braucht die Freiheit aber nur als ein Gefühl)

But the more I think about it, the less it fits ;-)

He @felixxx I think those short stories are underappreciated here on steem. This was a quick read, but took me at least 50 more seconds to conceptualize. It's true that when we tell people they should behave in a certain predefined way, people would try to actively resist such a thing. But once we would set them free, it might happen to be the case folks would continue to behave in a certain way still.

This is somewhat the same topic I wrote about when talking about hot steemit could learn for the mistakes in the Instagram community some days ago.

Furthermore, It might be applicable to religion in general. A lot of people don't believe in any god anymore, and still, people behave in the same way they used to do while being "suppressed" by all kinds of doctrines.

Thanks for the lengthy reply.

I voted for it, but didn't read it yet - it was only recommended to me.

The story above was just to show, how nonsensical some people argue for a linear reward system.
Some background

Haha you did?! Well thanks for that felix.
I am definitely in need for that back ground info. Already more than a month have passed since I joined. But still a lot to learn. Ty

Nice story :-)

I was thinking for quite a while, thanks for that inspiration. Might take it with me to bed now.

lol
offer a solution
try ;)

I'd try using a bucket + having an eye on it.

The Story of the Crabs in the Sand was educational , Thanks for blog it @felixxx

@felixxx fun fact about crabs.
did you know that the crabs got crabs!

I wish some politicans would think like this fishman.

That's really interesting! you somehow summed up some of our human nature.

Hey @felixxx! Interesting analogy. I just found your profile from your very old "1 week on steemit" review post :) I've chucked you a follow and I look forward to reading more of your content!

Cheers!
