Started my next session with chapter spacing on all of the files. Will also listen for clicks and pops. FYI, Kira’s audio really clean with perfect levels. However, I forgot to do this with the first 2 files that I mixed in my last Making Red Roses the Audiobook entry. Because just wanted to recreate what I’d already done with the original 15 minute audio sample.

Chapter spacing at the start and end of audio chapters gets done during the proofing process at work. Each engineer has their own unique style. I set mine at the 2 second range. With about 1.5 seconds after the chapter announcement and before narration begins. Then 2 seconds after the chapter. When the files are open appended there will now be 4 seconds between the end of chapters and the start of chapters.

And done, started with the first 2 files from the last entry. Almost forgot the Dedication, that’s a 2 second pause after the Opening, and a 4 second pause before Prologue. This pause helps with the music and sound fading. Going to add music and sound one file at a time through each chapter. They’re only like 4 minutes 20 seconds at the max. In this way, I’m duplicating the way I wrote the book by going through the story from start to finish.

Got to remember the structure for use of music and sound though.

Chapters 1 – 5 more ambient sound. Chapters 6 – 12 music interludes suspenseful. Chapters 13 – The Last Chapter music interludes even more suspenseful. The Last Chapter music fades out with Rike Luxx.

Next, took both songs that I bought licenses from Rike Luxx on, and converted them from MP3 Stereo to Wav Mono files. That way I can save cue markers. Looking for “suspenseful” and “more suspenseful” moments in the songs.

The first song “Last King” got used in the Opening. It’s for the last king of York, Richard III. The second song “2018” will be used in the Closing. The book will be released in 2018, so this song will remain appropriate for the credits as long as I finish on time. Yet, there’s also a church bell sound. Going to use Last King for the King’s Court chapters. And 2018 for the church garden chapters.

And just decided to convert all the narration and sound files to Wav Mono before even listening for clicks and pops on the narration. This will make it easier to edit and mix. Can also drop in cue markers. Also, organized the files in all my Red Roses folders. Now I can truly concentrate on Mastering the audiobook.

Thank you,

Cyrus Emerson
