The darkened night skies open to let the Empire's most feared shuttle through. The Upsilon-class shuttle is the only one of it's kind, therefore associated with it's owner Vader. The fear and distress he causes with his presence is transferred to the dark shuttle. The rap descends and he walks out followed by the snowtrooper commander who is trying to catch up with Vader's pace.
This is the commander's first proper dispatch, he's never seen or been to a battle this large outside of a simulation chamber. Vader knows this and is not giving him an easy time about it, in his every sentence more instructions which are hard for him to grasp since he hasn't even adjusted to the Sith lord's presence. They walk through the shallow snow while a line of stormtroopers ready for battle stand on each side.
The Empire loads their foot soldiers trained to kill from childhood onto the metal beast known as the All Terrain - Armored Transports. The animal-like appearance is intimidating to say the least, when a rebel soldier on the ground sees such a magnificent piece of machinery the blood in their veins freezes and they realize there is no way they can ever defeat this force...
The rebels are well aware of the oncoming storm, this battle may as well be the last stand of the Rebel Alliance against the Empire's tyranny, the soldiers are here to make it not so. The Empire cannot attack them from the orbit as they have deflector shields, they have to get through and destroy the shield generators from the inside. On their route a dozen outposts are stationed in order to slow them down.
The morning light alights the ten massive gray AT-ATs heading right for the rebel base. The group of soldiers on this single turret outpost do not fear death. They know there is no escape from this and they have volunteered to delay the Empire's progress in order for the others to safely evacuate, these are the true heroes of the rebellion even though they will not be remembered...
They unload their blasters at the feet of the armored beasts, the lasers barely damage them at all. They scream and struggle as the stormtroopers following the AT-ATs on foot mow them down with ease, they know this is never going to work but they try and do they try hard... They focus all their fire on a single AT-ATs foot, the force is too strong even for the reinforced steel and it cracks by the sheer force. The machine breaks and falls down crashing in flames. The tiny group cheers but they're quickly silenced by a single deafening blast from the Imperial shuttle high above them. This is how heroes really fall, alone without anyone to bare witness...
