NSDS-Chapter 1: A New Life

in #story7 years ago

I moved into a little house down the street of a quiet little neighborhood in Jacksonville, NC. It was a light blue, two story house with black shutters. Some of the shingles had fallen off the roof and it had a creaky porch. But all in all, it was a good place to make a home. "Okay, let's do this." I say as I unpack the first box.

My name is Lilly King. I moved to North Carolina from Florida in search of a new life. I'm 20 years old. I have short brown hair and blue-green eyes . I'm pretty, I guess. Well, that's what the weirdos that hit on me say, but that's off topic. I started to unpack the kitchen things; pots, pans, utensils, and a kettle with a very unique swirl design. I love this kettle. It is so pretty, even though I can't remember where I got it. I sit it down on the counter top near the sink and go upstairs to unpack all my clothes and spread my bed.

Suddenly, there was a knock at my door.

I walk down the hallway and open the door. It was my neighbor. "Oh hello! Nice to meet you! I'm Christina Markle! Welcome to the neighborhood!"

"Hello. I'm Lilly King, and it's nice to meet you, too." I say, a bit nervous. Christina was a small woman with pretty dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. When I look her over, I saw she was carrying a small potted plant. "Who's that for?" I tilt my head slightly.

"Oh! I almost forgot! It's for you!" She smiled and handed the plant to me. "Lilly, I must warn you about something!" She pulled me close to her. "This house is haunted." She told me with the most serious face. I stood there for a second and stared before laughing. "I'm sorry... I'm not trying to be rude or anything but.... hehe, are you serious?" I say as I attempt to not laugh so hard. "Yes. I'm very serious. Some people won't even come over here. They are too scared to do so." She said with steel in her voice.

"I'm sorry. I don't believe in ghosts. Do you want to come in and have some tea?" I ask, opening my door a little wider for her to come in and maybe sit down. "Oh, no! No thank you! I have something I need to do! Well bye!" she said nervously and speed walked away. "Okay then..." I closed the door and went back to unpacking. It was sundown when I finally finished.

I awake to a large crash coming from downstairs. I get up, grab my bat, and head down. My heart was beating a mile a minute. Then, I saw a figure in the dark that looked like a young man. "AHHHH!" I scream and swing my bat at what I thought was his head. The bat was almost immediately flung across the room. The force of the impact sent me falling backwards onto my brick mantle.

This is it... I'm going to die... My head's going to be split open and I'm going to die... No... I DON'T WANT TO DIE!

But I didn't die like I thought I was going to. I felt a strong arm wrapped around my waist, holding me up. I open my eyes and find myself staring back into bright green ones. "Why did you...? " Coming to my senses, I push the strange shadow off of me and retreat to a corner where my bat is, but by the time I came back to take another swing........

He was gone.
