Chapter 1
Missing Daughter!
“LAPD, how may I help you?” An officer of the Robbery-Homicide answered politely. Seth Blake was releaved to have gotten through to them.
“My daughter… my daughter, she’s missing!” He replied frantically, but was still trying to keep his cool as many factors now came into play.
“What’s your name sir?” The officer asked. Seth paused a bit, remembering why they came to Los Angeles in the first place. He had to play it safe, or else the officer would easily be able to tell that something was majorly wrong.
“My name’s Seth… Seth Blake.”
“Okay, Mr. Blake, you don’t sound American. Which leads me to believe that you aren’t a citizen of this country. Are you visiting by any chance?” The officer followed up after receiving Seth’s name.
“Yes; yes, myself, my wife and children are visiting here for about a week and a half, before we return to the U.K.” His wife Gracie Blake, and seventeen year old son Ethan Blake, looked at each other in suspense at how he was behaving after the initial report.
“How many children are there sir?” The officer asked, as it was mandatory to get every detail on record. Seth, now feeling very reluctant at this point, had no choice but to give the information. He paused for a few brief seconds, then responded as casually as he could.
“Two, the missing daughter, and a son, who’s here with us right now.” Seth replied with a strong Welsh accent.
“And how old are they?” The officer continued.
“My daughter’s twenty-two, and my son is seventeen.” He had realized that involving the police was a major mistake. However, he couldn’t just simply tell them that the report was a mistake.
“And the location which you’re staying at?”
“We’re staying at the Best Western Hollywood Plaza Inn, on N Highland Avenue, Hollywood, suite 50.” Gracie tried to get Seth’s attetion, while Ethan looked on in a sort of a horrifying way.
“Okay Blake, we’ll send some officers over to do further investigations into the matter, right away.”
“Alright, thank you very much.” Seth replied, then he hung up the phone. Immediately, Gracie wanted to know what was happening as she tried to talk to Seth, but Seth walked away from her and Ethan’s side. He went by the freshly polished window; thinking, and thinking deeply some more. He was pretty sure that they were forgetting about something, but it wasn’t coming to mind.
The LAPD were unaware that the conversation was being monitored thousands of miles away by the International Federal Crime Unit (IFCU). Its jurisdiction spans both the United States and Canada, and moves through Germany, the United Kingdom, and France as they are all adjoining counterparts of the Federation. Finally, their jurisdiction stretches as far as Japan and Israel, as they are also a part of the Federation. IFCU has been given the power to exercise monitoring at will within these eight nations, and their surrounding territories. So it’s no surprise then, that IFCU immediately picks up on the report, is able to break it down even before the LAPD has to do a full on investigation, and is considering stepping in, simply because of their own personal interests… not to mention, that the case sounds much like it’s way out of the LAPD’s league. Lead councilman Dieter Adler for IFCU holds a rather speedy meeting with the other board council members, and they reached a unanimous decision to send in their own agents to take over the case.
“Spalding, make the call to the LAPD’s chief of police. I want that case handed over to us.” Adler, a former German top military special ops soldier, requested in a strong German accent. Spalding complied with the request. He directly called the chief’s phone extension, instead of calling his secretary; to then have to wait to be placed through to him. The phone rang twice, then their was an easy soft answer.
“LAPD, Chief Sodina speaking, how may I help you?”
“Chief Sodina, my name’s Chip Spalding, a first response agent at the International Federal Crime Unit.” When the chief heard this, he simply froze, paused, then he replied.
“IFCU huh? Well what can I do for you, agent Spalding?”
“A few minutes ago, we had intercepted a very strange report of a missing person made to the Robbery and Homicide department, name’s Blake. We have a special interest in the case, and we’d like you to hand over the report, as we’ll be taking over from now on.” The expression shown on the chief’s face was one of disgust, not that Spalding could see it, but he didn’t like the request at all. Unfortunately, it was IFCU and no one could defy them once they made a particular request. “And one more thing; this request was made by the lead councilman, Dieter Adler. So, if it’s a problem, you might want to take it up with him instead.” Since he heard it himself, chief Sodina didn’t want any trouble, neither did he want the LAPD to be humiliated by the Federation’s new watchdog.
“Oh no, you don’t have to put councilman Adler on the line, I get it. We’ll have the case transferred to you within a few minutes.” The chief responded quite pleasantly. Spalding was actually surprised because usually, the police in the IFCU’s jurisdiction, tends to scuff and scorn when asked to hand over key information regarding special cases. “Layton!” The chief angrily said over the phione, as he made the call to the Robbery and Homicide department.
“Yes sir, Chief Sodina.” Layton, the officer who took the call at the time replied innocently, wondering what he had done wrong.
“Send all the data, and transcript recordings that you have on the Blake report to me, now.”
“Yes sir, but I was just about to dispatch two squad cars to the location.” Officer Layton responded.
“Send them NOW! ASAP!” This was the first time that chief Sodina had truly snapped at any of his officers, but they didn’t know what he knew about IFCU, and the Federation. So it was best that they followed his orders to a tee, when it concerned them.
“Yes sir, I’ll cancel the dispatch and send them to you right away.” The officer replied.
This was the IFCU’s first big case, and all of their government’s hope rode on their shoulders, to do what they trained them for. To show no mercy to their enemies, and most of all; show the rest of the world that they were indeed in business, and that if they were willing to screw around in their territories; then the IFCU’s agents were going to hunt them down with everything they’ve got. For Adler, this meant that he would indefinitely solidify his position as lead councilman for the IFCU’s internal affairs.
Oh, I forgot to give credit to very amazing photographer/image editor Ms. Lisa Fotio:)
