  1. Omayra Sanchez

Omayra Sanchez was 13 when the Nevado del Ruiz volcano in Colombia erupted in 1985. The poor girl was trapped under the ruins of her house from the neck down. The girl's lower body was wedged in ruins so it could not be lifted. Photographer Frank Fourier took a picture over several hours before Omayra breathed his last.
After surviving for three days, Omayra died of hypothermia in the place before he could get help. The death process of the teenage girl was broadcast live on TV and witnessed by millions around the world. The bleached hand of his hand and his blackened eyes accompany his tragic death could strike the world for revealing the failure of the Colombian government to react more quickly in helping victims of natural disasters. The volcanic eruption of Nevado del Ruiz alone claimed about 25,000 lives.

  1. Saleh Khalaf

The Pulitzer Prize-winning photo of 2005 above is titled 'Operation Lion Heart'. The photo tells the story of the struggle of a 9-year-old Iraqi child of a bomb-blast victim. The boy, later dubbed Saleh Khalaf (Lionheart) for his courage to have dozens of operations between life and death, is a silent witness to the brutality of war due to the US invasion of Iraq based on false allegations of possession of weapons of mass destruction by Iraq.
At that time Saleh was on his way home from school when he found a ball-like object on the street. And like other kids in general when they find toys, Saleh picks up the thing. When his friends shout and run away, that's when Saleh realizes his mistake. The poor boy had to lose one eyeball, one right hand, almost all of his left fingers and a torn wound in his stomach after the bomb he was holding exploded.
