Is Amazon Taking Over The Retail World?

in #stores8 years ago

In the media there is a constant stream of news that stores such as Macy's, Sears, JCPenny are shutting down stores left and right. This is due in part to the rising influence of Amazon and its aggressive pricing power. Large players in the big box retail category are having to aggressively adjust their playbook in order to combat the rising tide of Amazon. An example of this is the steep price collapse of Targets stock in the past couple months; in part due to expensive restructuring costs in order to adapt.

Unfortunately for the big box retailers such as Target and WalMart the game might just be over. This is due to the fact that Amazon is already larger in market cap than many of the larger competitors combined. The world of shopping has changed and it may be too late for competitors to adapt. The second largest retailer in America; Walmart is aggressively investing in online sales, but is it enough?

In the end when the smoke clears who will be left standing in the world of Amazon.com.
