Hello everyone... It's been a while on here. i will be talking on Health today. I once attended a seminar hosted by one of my big aunties also in the medical field and will like to share it with you guys.
What is mental stress?
It is a state of mental tension and worry caused by problems in life, work, etc something that causes strong feelings of worry or anxiety, physical force or pressure.
CAUSES OF MENTAL STRESS
There are many causes, some of which are :
1)Depression or general unhappiness
2)Anxiety and agitation
3)Moodiness, irritability, or anger.
4)Feeling overwhelmed
5)Loneliness and isolation
6)Other mental or emotional health problems.
7)Being unhappy in your job

8)Having a heavy workload or too much responsibilities
9)Working long hours.
10)Having poor management, unclear expectations of your work, or no say in the decision making process.
11)Working under dangerous conditions
12)Being insecure about your chance for advancement or risk of termination
13)Having to give speeches in front of colleagues/classmates who are not friendly
14)Facing discrimination or harassment at work/school, especially if your company/school isn't supportive.
15)The death of a loved one
16)Divorce/break ups
17)Loss of a job/delay in admission
18)Increase in financial obligations
19)Getting married
20)Moving to a new home
21)Chronic illness or injury
22)Marital violence and all forms of mental abuses.
23)Seperation
24)Lost of loved ones, etc.
HOW TO MANAGE MENTAL STRESS
TIP 1: IDENTIFY THE SOURCES OF STRESS IN YOUR LIFE
Just like the African Proverb: "Try to identify what causes you stress, once you know that, you are half way to getting solution."
TIP 2: PRACTICE THE 4A's OF STRESS MANAGEMENT
WHICH ARE:- AVoid, ALter, ADapt, ACcept.
1) AVOID UNNECESSARY STRESS
*learn to say No
*Avoid people who
stresses you out
*Take control of your environment
*pare your TO DO LIST
2) ALTER THE SITUATION
*Express your feelings instead of bottling them up
*Be willing to compromise
*create a balanced
schedule
3) ADAPT TO THE SITUATION
*Reframe problems
*Look at the big picture/be positive towards life
*Adjust your standards and goals
*Practice gratitude
4) ACCEPT THINGS THAT YOU CAN'T CHANGE
*Don't try to control the uncontrollable
*Look for the upsides
*Learn to forgive
*Share your feelings with trusted people
TIP 3: GET MOVING
By exercising, dancing, listening to music,
shopping etc.
TIP 4: CONNECT TO OTHERS
*spend quality time with friends and loved ones
TIP 5: MAKE TIME FOR FUN AND RELAXATION
*set aside leisure time
*Do something you enjoy everyday
*keep your sense of humor
TIP 6: MANAGE YOUR TIME BETTER
*Don't over commit yourself
*Priotize tasks
*Break projects into small steps
*Delegate responsibilities
TIP 7: MAINTAIN BALANCE WITH HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
*Eat a healthy diet
*Reduce caffeine and sugar
*Avoid alcohol, cigarettes and drugs
*Get enough rest and sleep. The brain needs uninterrupted 8 hours sleep for an adult per day.
