HISTORY OF NIGERIA, AFRICA

HELLO STEMMIANS THIS WILL BE MY FIRST OFFICIAL
ON POST STEMMIT.

And i will be talking about Nigeria as Nation and her Origin .

Nigeria is federal republic in West Africa, bordering Benin in the west, Chad and Cameroon in the north.
The origin of Nigeria can be traced to prehistoric settlers (Nigerians) Living in the area as early as back in 11000Bc.
Different ancient Africans civilization settled in the region that is today Nigeria, this include the kingdom of Nri, the Benin Empire, and Oyo Empire. Muslims reached Nigeria through the Hausa states in the 11th Century, while Christianity
came to Nigeria in the 15th Century through Augustinian and Capuchin monks from Portugal. Lagos the first capital city of Nigeria , but now (Abuja). Was invaded by the British forces in 1851. Nigeria became a British protectorate in 1901.
Colonization last until 1960, when an independence movement succeeded gaining Nigeria its independence.

Nigeria became a republic in 1963, but was ruled by the military three years later after a blood coup d' etat. A separated movement later formed the Republic Of Biafra in 1967, leading to the three Nigerian Civil War.

Nigeria became a republic once again after a new constitution was written in 1979. However, the republic was short-lived, when military seized power four years later. A new republic was planned to established in August 1993, but was
established the following year, which ended three decades of intermittent military rule.
