The impacts of forest fires are complex. Forest fires are not only affecting the ecology and causing environmental damage only. However, the impacts of forest fires turned out to cover other areas.
According to Rully Syumanda (2003), mentioned there are 4 aspects indicated as the impact of forest fires. These four impacts include impacts on social, cultural and economic life, ecological impacts and environmental degradation, impact on inter-state relations, and impacts on transportation and tourism.
Social, Cultural and Economic Impacts. Forest fires have a significant impact on the social, cultural and economic life that includes:
Disrupted daily activities; The smoke caused by wildfires automatically disrupts the daily activities of humans, especially those whose activities are done outdoors.
Decreased productivity; Disruption of human activities due to forest fires can affect productivity and income.
The loss of a number of community livelihoods in and around the forest; In addition, for people who depend on processing forest products, the burning of forests means missing work areas (livelihoods).
Increased pests; Forest fires will destroy some species and damage the natural balance so that species that have the potential to become uncontrolled pests. In addition, the burning of the forest will make some animals lose their habitat which then forces them to get out of the forest and become pests such as elephants, monkeys, and other animals.
Disrupted health; Forest fires result in air pollution by dust, SOx, NOx, COx, and other gases can have a negative impact on human health, including respiratory tract infections, shortness of breath, skin irritation, eye irritation, and others.
The absorption of the state budget; Every year it will cost a lot to handle (stop) forest fires. Also to rehabilitate burned forests and other impacts such as public health and natural disasters taken from state coffers.
Decrease in foreign exchange. Forests have become one of the country's foreign exchange sources from timber and other non-timber products, including tourism. With the burning of forests the source of foreign exchange will be destroyed. In addition, the declining productivity caused by forest fires will ultimately affect the country's foreign exchange.
