OMG it was so simple. I looked at the code and retyped it for days. I mean literally I have 40 hours on this and have watched hundeds of videos and read as much docs as I could thinking that maybe I was just missing something. Ran the JS through debuggers and chrome console log and never seen the error that was causing it not to work. WOW it was so simple. I learned a lot and will continue to grow.
