A warm hello to all the #Steemit people reading this post. May you have a fantastic weekend! After learning the way and procedures of writing on #Steemit from #steemschools, today I am coming up with my first post ever on #Steemit. Hoping for the best and finger crossed! Hope more and more people will put their hands forward for friendship and for a fresh start to learn and discuss some new things together!
In the world in which we are living today because of the great philosophies and theories it is possible to communicate to the people living across the globe. We can see them whenever we want. We can travel to any location we want on the Earth. Within few hours it is possible now for us to travel between any two countries we want today! Any information we want about anything is possible to get it. Any kind of illness can be cured today due to upgradation in medical areas. Living on earth now it is possible for us to study about and see any other planets, galaxy, etc located several light years away from us! This all could have been possible because of science and the great contributions of several scientists.
Different scientists has discovered several different things which has transformed everything today! Today we are going to be discussing about one of the greatest theory discovered by Einstein known as Theory of Relativity.
THEORY OF RELATIVITY :
Theory of Relativity has been divided into two sections: Special Theory of Relativity and General Theory of Relativity. First of all let’s start the discussion about the Special Theory of Relativity. There are broadly two kinds of frame of references. One of which is known as Inertial frame of reference and the other is known as Non-Inertial frame of reference.
Inertial frame of reference means if any kind of object or body is travelling at a constant speed at any situation or instance of given time only then it is regarded as Inertial frame of reference. Non-Inertial frame of reference are those in which the speed of any object or body is not constant at any situation or instance of given time. For example: when a car is travelling on road and due to any obstructions or reasons the speed of car needs to be changed (either decrease or increase the speed). Then it is regarded as the Non-Inertial frame of reference. Whereas the Special Theory of Relativity is valid for the Inertial frame of reference.
Let’s now understand how motion and time are not absolute and how it is relative! Let us assume we are riding a car at a speed of 60 km/hr and you have two of your friends accompanying you in the car. So, for three of you the speed is zero for each other inside the car. But for a lady standing in the side of the road; for her your speed is 60 km/hr. Now, let us again assume there is another car also coming towards you at the speed of 60 km/hr. But since the speed of your car is also 60 km/hr you will feel or realize that the car coming towards you is coming at the speed of 120 km/hr instead of 60 km/hr. So, from this the conclusion can be stated as the motion is relative. With the change in perception motions become different.
Now, let’s understand how time is relative! By the end of the year 1800, Michelson–Morley experiment has already proved that speed of light is fixed. In any situation or instant the speed of light doesn’t change. But it was also fixed that in this universe light is only the fastest traveler. Any other object or body cannot be faster that the speed of light. But suppose if it is true and if a spaceship in this universe is travelling faster than the speed of light and in the front of the spaceship light is glowing from the spaceship. In that case, if we calculate by merging the calculations of speed of light and speed of spaceship we will realize that the speed will become the twice of the speed of light.
So, just because this equation doesn’t break; for the people sitting inside the spaceship the time limit start flowing; i.e. the time of one year of that respective spaceship can be of several years of time for the earth; Einstein said it and from this only he has proved time is not absolute. Time is relative!
GENERAL THEORY OF RELATIVITY :
Einstein was not fully satisfied with his Special Theory of Relativity because of which he worked on the General Theory of Relativity. He wanted to know what the effects of gravity are on time! From one of his experiment he also proved that gravity; i.e. acceleration also exists and Newton explained that any object or body nearer to the surface of earth gets attracted towards the surface of earth because of the gravity. It was just because of which Newton believed that Earth orbits around the Sun because of the gravity as one gravitational body puts effect on the other gravitational body and tries to attract towards it.
But Einstein with the help of his General Theory of Relativity has proved Newton wrong and explained that Earth orbits the Sun because of the effect gravity on the spacetime generating curve/bend on it and this was the same reason because of which other planets also orbits the Sun. Einstein was the first to work on the spacetime and the help of which he explained gravity puts effect on time; i.e. whichever body or object has gravity time will flow slower for it and time will flow faster in space. Gravity puts weight on space and just because of this it orbits around it.
Einstein also said that gravity puts effect on light but not on the speed of light. People used to think that light travels in the straight direction. But Einstein taking the reference of the real position of star; the position of which changed later and with the help of one of his another experiment proved and explained that light because of the effects of gravity on the space time generating curve on the space time path of light gets bend and just because of it we stars seems to us in a different position from its real position and with the help of this Theory of Relativity Einstein gave birth to the most powerful equation E = mc^2 in which E is the energy, M is the mass and C represents velocity.
So, this was the Theory of Relativity. Hope we have learnt something new in this post. Thank you so much for reading my post! If this post was helpful for you then don’t forget to Resteem and share your valuable thoughts and ideas about it. Any guidance and feedback are most welcome!
