The space race or space race stems from the intense rivalry between the two superpowers of the United States and the Soviet Union (USSR) in the claim of winning space technology. Wernher von Braun and Sergei Korolev are two rocket scientists who are the backbone of the two superpowers. Both have the same dream and impossible to do at that time. Yes, fly humans to the Moon. Since 1957 the two superpowers have competed to master space. Starting from the development of rocket systems, orbiting satellites, orbit humans above Earth's atmosphere to send humans to the Moon successfully done during the cold war. The end of the space race began to be felt when the United States managed to land a man first time on the Moon.
The response of American society to the success of the first man land on the Moon would be a pride for American citizens. Almost all the media at that time highlighted the human landing on the Moon and made it a headline in every newspaper or television media. However, after the United States traveled on space on the Apollo 14 mission, the American public judged that the exploration of outer space by sending humans to the Moon was only a mission that wasted the state budget. So in 1972, the Apollo 17 mission became the final mission for human delivery to the Moon.
Lately, a conspiracy about the end of the Apollo 17 mission that closed the mission of sending humans to the Moon became a warm thing to talk about. Questions arise, Really Apollo 17 mission on 7 December 1972 is the last mission of sending a man to the moon? If so, is there a human Moon exploration mission after the Apollo 17 mission? Then, if the exploration of the Moon then goes on why does NASA not send humans to return to the Moon? And why is the mission the last mission? Is it true that the Apollo 17 members saw dangerous Alien so that the Apollo program was stopped?
Apollo 17 mission on December 7, 1972, is true to be the last mission for the Apollo program as well as the last mission for sending humans to the Moon. However, the Apollo 17 missions are not the last missions for moon exploration by humans or unmanned space missions. In 1973 Russia and America as the superpower still continue the mission of exploring the Moon by sending unmanned missions using robots. The missions are Luna 21 missions conducted by Russia and 2 exploration missions of Explorer 49 and Mariner 10 by America. The mission of Luna 21 flew on January 8, 1973, in order to take the image of the Moon's surface from close range and the mission lasted for 7 days. The next mission is Explorer 49 which flew on June 10, 1973 and continued mariner mission 10 which flew on 3 November 1973. After all three missions, the mission of exploring the Moon continues. To date, more than 100 unmanned Moon cruise missions have been conducted by many countries.
If we look back at NASA's history of planning the Apollo program, NASA is actually planning an Apollo program ranging from Apolo 1, 4, 5 to Apollo 20 missions. During the Space Race, America suffered two defeats with the USSR (Soviet Union). The blow begins when Yuri Gagarin manages to become the first man to orbit the Earth in the Vostok 1 mission over the Soviet Union. The defeat was a trigger for president JF Kennedy to make the first human landing on the Moon by the Americans. As a superpower certainly America does not want to lose to the Soviet Union. On March 18, 1965, the Soviet Union again defeated the Americans with the success of conducting spacewalks by Alexei Leonov on Voskhod 2 missions. During 1961 to 1966, NASA's increase in the Apollo program budget increased dramatically with the highest peak budget in 1966. Initial the cost of the Apollo program is only 7 billion US Dollars but America's defeat of the Soviets managed to catapult NASA's budget to 20 billion US dollars. In a one-man flight "Moon Going" Earth on Apollo 11 missions, America at least cost about 355 million US Dollars. The very high cost is what causes the American parliament to no longer allow the implementation of a human delivery mission to the Moon.
After the success of NASA's first human landing mission on the moon on the Apollo 11 mission in 1969, NASA began to re-prioritize its space exploration goal. NASA's initial plan to build a space station began to be revived. Finally in 1970 NASA announced the cancellation of the Apollo 20 mission and will replace it with the mission of building a space station called Skylab. In the same year, NASA also announced that the last 3 missions of the Apollo series of missions that could continue were Apollo 15, 16, and 17 missions. Even in 1971, the American government wanted to cancel the Apollo 16 and 17 missions even though in the end both Apollo missions still implemented. In addition to the construction of the space station became the main reason for the cessation of human delivery to the Moon at that time, the very high cost and economic and political conditions of the United States became the next reason for this developing country no longer send humans to the Moon.
So why at this time NASA busy sending his rides to Mars and even trying to send humans to the uninhabited red planet it? No other answer is almost the same as when America's defeat of the Soviets where America does not want to lose its cultivation status in space technology because that's the American parliament approved the mission of delivery of spacecraft to Mars planet. The cessation of human delivery to the Moon is not the end of the Moon's crawling by humans. The main reason for the suspension of NASA's astronaut's shipment to the Moon is because of the high cost, economic conditions and political conditions of the American state itself.
Best regard @t4r1
