Who did not dreamed as a child or even greater when pressing a button and appear at the other end of the galaxy? After hours and hours of watching the series and movies of the Star Trek saga and observing how technology evolves, do not ask yourself why not? Why can not it be that we can build a real functional teleporter?
Can we someday build a real functional teleporter?
Well, keep dreaming because it's something that will not happen. At the moment our technology, however advanced it may seem, is far from being able to teleport a human being from one point to another, if it is really possible to achieve such a thing.
Philip Hopkins, a physicist who works at Caltech, has it clear. It is totally impossible today for instant transport through space. Why? Because our bodies would have to transform themselves into energy and then return to their corporeal form without there being the slightest mishap. Can you imagine that you come back and appear without a kidney or with an eye on the knee?
Hopkins believes that even if we combined the full capacity of each of the computers available today, and that could hold only a fraction of data from a single human, teleportation would remain impossible, unfeasible and, ultimately, a dream banned from Science fiction. It is not easy to outsmart the energy.
Can we ever teleport our bodies?
As we can see, it is not that we are far from building a real functional teletransporter, it is that we are light years away, and not a few precisely, but perhaps thousands. Maybe we can not do it ever, at least with the physical laws of this universe. Perhaps in another within a multiverse it would be very easy, but that is speculation and metaphysics.
However, Facebook's technical director, Mike Schoepfer, seems to have a plan to achieve the longed for human teleportation, although it is not what it seems.
It is true that Schroepfer has set himself the goal of achieving a functional teleportation by the year 2025. With this they say that all the geographical borders of the planet can be crossed ... but through the Oculus Rift glasses. That is to say, what they seek is to be fully aware within a virtual world capable of deceiving their own senses.
Through Oculus Rift you can create your own worlds in real time. Now, they still have three problems to make this possible. It is necessary for the user to see himself, that a real environment can be imitated and that the worlds themselves can be created. It is not small thing.
Although it is not wrong to create a virtual world in which to interact with environments and objects, it is not the same as being able to teleport in reality, no matter how real the experience is. Unfortunately, it is the little we can hope for in the next few years ... that we know today, of course.
