kascing or vermicompost fertilizer is a fertilizer derived from the worm (vermics) debris. This fertilizer is made by keeping the worms in a pile of organic waste until the worm breeds in it and decomposes organic waste and produces impurities. This process is known as vermisisation (Murbandono, 1994). The process of composting of this type is not different from composting in general; which distinguishes only the starternya in the form of worms.
Kascing fertilizer can fertilize plants because the worm debris has a shape and structure similar to the soil but the size of the particles are smaller and richer in organic matter so it has a high aeration level and suitable to be used as a planting medium. Worm compost has the same nutrient content as the decomposed organic material..
BASIC COMPONENTS OF CASCING FERTILIZER (VERMICOMPOST)
- Humus
- Plant growth hormone
- Soil microbes
The quality of vermicompost depends on the type of media or feed material used, the type of earthworm, and the age of the vermicompost. Vermicompos of good quality are marked with black to brownish black, odorless, textured crumbs.
ADVANTAGE OF CASCING FERTILIZER (VERMICOMPOST)
- Fertilizer / Vermicompos has the ability to hold water by 40-60% so as to maintain moisture.
- Improve soil structure and neutralize soil pH.
- Fertilizer / Vermicompost contains various nutrients needed by plants such as N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Mn, Al, Na, Cu, Zn, Bo, and Mo depending on the materials used.
- Helps provide nutrients for plants.
- Improve soil fertility
- Fertilizer kascing / Vermicompost role to improve the ability to bind the ground water.
Experiments on the use of kascing (vermicompos) fertilizers in corn and mustard plants, show tangible results both for growth and crop production.
MAKING OF CASCING FERTILIZER (VERMICOMPOST)
Material Collection
Collect organic waste, such as grasses, straw, leaf litter, vegetable waste, or food scraps (household waste). This type of waste generally contains C. In rural areas that generally cultivate livestock, livestock manure can also be used. This dirt is used as a source of N.
Explanation of the main ingredient
Cuts (cut into smaller pieces) grasses, straw, leaf litter, or vegetable residue, then mix it. This enumeration and mixing is intended to make the material more homogeneous and composting will be relatively faster.
Mixing
Arrange / stack alternately between leaf litter and cattle dung.
Fermentation
Cover with tarpaulin / bag of rice / trash bag / material that can hold water, Stir 3 days to 2 weeks. Basic compost has been made after about 2 weeks and ready to be used as worm medium.
Composting Trash by Worms
- Finished compost is put in buckets / containers are adequate
- Insert the worm into the container.
- Leave for about 2 weeks
- Vermicompost ready for use.
ECONOMIC VALUE OF CASCING FERTILIZER (VERMICOMPOST)
- To make a vermicompost does not cost a fortune. The equipment and materials (technology) used are simple.
- Place / land of vermicompost kascing fertilizer business is relatively small.
- Can prevent environmental pollution due to untapped organic waste.
- Media material or earthworm feed is organic waste that does not need to be purchased.
- Can reduce the amount of organic waste because the vermicompost result is approximately 10-40% of the amount of material stacked.
- Can be a new source of income for the community
Thus some information about the basic research of kascing fertilizer (vermikompos) and how to manufacture it. I hope to give you new information about science, greeting to @steemstem and all its curators Because of the support of the scientific world of steemit. I LOVE SCIENCE.
