Cell Drawing: Choroid Plexus

CoroidPlex1.jpg

In this particular concept a cell from the choroid plexus is shown. These epithelial cells produce the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that circulates through the central nervous system. The brush like structures on the top of the cell are called microvilli, and their function is to increase the area of secretion and reabsorption of substances, which enhances the circulation of CSF. Pathological conditions such as hydrocephalus, can arise from abnormalities in the function of these cells.

Drawn with 2B and 4H pencils. Inspired by plates made by Dr. Krstic in General Histology of the Mammal (1985).

Nice drawing. If you can digitise it, I'm sure it would be a great addition to the current scientific images; it's difficult to find a suitable image (science-wise) right now.

Glad that you liked it! I will consider using digital drawing software in future creations. However, if I find a way to digitise the drawing, an updated version will be uploaded.
