Yes, I have read this book called "Surviving The Extremes" and a doctor who travelled to the Amazon was talking about the potential some of the plants natives of the jungle use in the discovery of new drugs. It seems like this approach is getting more popular and we really need new drugs (especially antibiotics). Cheers!
