The scientific method is a way of thinking and acting and should be what one relies on to discard or not one or the other ideas. There is nothing wrong to question results, ask questions, verify experiments. However, when data is pointing to one direction being totally incorrect, this should be accepted as well (and this is often where divergences of opinion starts).

From my own experience with these (not many, but still a few), all my discussions (in which I was debunking those theories) ended up on nothing, as I was clearly part of the conspiracy.
