The last prize Abel reveals again the importance of this discipline for our life and our comprehension of the world (2017).
The mathematician and writer Ian Stewart says that an investment decided about mathematical investigation there would push the advance of the knowledge much more than a genomic megaproject or the last super accelerator of particles. It is the envy of the mathematician opposite to the big budgets that exhibit (sometimes) the physics and the biology. But, in spite of this tinkling so Englishman that will bother more than one reader, is very probable that the numbers give the reason to Stewart. A good example is the last prize Abel, the citizen of the world Yves Meyer. From the formats of compression of the information that allow us to see movies up to the recent detection of the gravitational waves, Einstein's great prediction. Stewart's provocation can then rethink this way: what would happen if we had hundred Yves Meyers instead of one? The reader does the account.

Most of the people thinks sincerely that the mathematics are incomprehensible, and it is necessary to forgive them if we bear in mind the mathematical education that they have received. The physicist Stephen Hawking formulated what can be call him best-sellers A Hawking's Law in the prologue of his book A brief history of the time: Every equation that you introduce in a book reduces the sales to the half. In spite of that the mathematics are the foundation of our comprehension of the world, and of the world in yes same, we all strain for concealing them, do not be going to expel the reader towards the section of sports. But there is a formula much better that to hide them: to explain them.
An agreement of metaphysics, a papal encyclical or the speech of a candidate can be incomprehensible. The mathematics it cannot be. They are the science of the structure, the order and the relation. They depart from the axioms and simpler and indisputable operations to deduce necessary truths. Each of his steps and procedures are forced to do explicitly. They are the most transparent matter that has conceived the human mind. It would be enough to any student of baccalaureate to sit down half an hour with a pencil and a paper to demonstrate for yes the same theorem of Pythagoras. The problem is that none of us has half an hour, truth? We are too busy retweeted what others already retweeted.
To understand the last prize Abel, who treats of the ondículas (wavelets) is not easy. It needs time, desire and concentration. If they give themselves these three miracles, nevertheless, the experience can turn out to be very advisable.

The Academy Norway of Sciences and Letters Abel proclaims every year the deserving one of the prize, after a selection done by a committee of five mathematicians of several countries. The economic reward for the winning one is of 770 000 €, similarly to that of the Nobel Prize, which does not grant any award to the mathematicians. The prize tries to publicize the mathematics and to increase his prestige, specially between the young persons.
