#NOTE: Colon used must be freely mobile i.e it must have a mesentery

#INDICATIONS
-To relieve obstruction of the left side of the colon due to carcinoma,diverticulum,strictures and anorectal atresia
-To defunction an anastomosis
-To rest a severely injured sigmoid colon and rectum
CARE OF A COLOSTOMY
-Keep the area clean
-Prevent skin excoriation by applying zinc oxide cream
-Introduce the patient's mother to another woman whose child has a colostomy for emotional support
#COMPLICATION
-Prolapse
-Paracolostomy hernia
-Retraction
-Internal hernia
-Colostomy diarrhoea
-Mental depression
-Social isolation
-Stenosis of the orifice
-Necrosis of the stoma
