The blockbuster trade between the Cleveland Cavs and the Boston Celtics may now be voided. It's been a week since the NBA world was shocked by the news that one of the best point guards, and closers, Kyrie Irving was on the move to the rival Celtics. The Cavs appeared to make out pretty well though by adding talented scorer, Isaiah Thomas, defensive specialist, Jae Crowder, and the 2018 first round pick from the Brooklyn Nets. That pick is almost assured to be a top 3 lottery pick next summer.

But everything has come to a screeching halt as Isiah Thomas did not fare well in his physical with the Cavs. Thomas injured his hip against the Cavs in the playoffs and missed the rest of the series. The Celtics appeared to be upfront and honest about his physical status when the trade was made last week. Apparently the Cavs had the right to reject the trade, pending the physical results. They have until 10am on Thursday to decide whether to approve the trade, as it currently is put together.
There is another option though to get this trade done. In an unprecedented move, the Cavs can demand, or more politely, ask, for additional compensation from the Celtics due to the physical of Thomas. They can ask for some draft picks or players or a combination of both. 2017 first round draft pick, Jayson Tatum, is more of a pipe dream for the Celtics to give up. Young role players Marcus Smart and Jalen Brown are also not likely to be included. The most realistic outcome would be for the Celtics to include a couple late first round picks, if they even offer anything.

And in a weird twist tonight, we find out that there has been no communication between the teams. The Cavs haven't even reached out to the Celtics to make a formal request to remedy the situation. So what is going to happen? The Cavs do NOT want Kyrie Irving back. And the Celtics gave them a beyond good deal. And the Celtics do NOT want Isiah Thomas back. Those bridges are burned. Each team must make this trade work. But who will fold?
Stay posted with @steemsports and we will move this story forward as more details emerge. Cheers!

The Cavs got such a good deal that even if Isaiah missed the whole season they would still be the trade winner. The Cavs should just accept the trade as is before they blow it.

Worst case scenario is Thomas misses the start of the season. He is a free agent and wants $100+ in the off season so will play hard for sure

I think the Cavs have all the leverage in this trade! The celtics are up against the wall and I think they will be forced to give more up in the trade. Thanks for sharing @steemsports

Thanks for reading and commenting Dylan!

There is no way Isaiah can go back to Boston. They almost have to give more. They made it seem like he was going to be one of the great Celtics and build around him. With Cleveland at least Kyrie was the one who wanted out so it is no loss to them.

I think if anything the celtics will add a late 1st 2nd round pick. Cleveland just tried to get more out of them.

Thanks for sharing

Less than 12 hours before the deadline to complete the trade, the Cavs and Celtics have agreed to terms and completed the trade that would send Kyrie Irving to Boston and Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, the 2018 unprotected first-round Nets pick, as well as a 2020 second-round pick to Cleveland.
