According to The Sun, Lionel Messi still hasn’t signed a new contract with Barcelona, and the rumor is that he is growing increasingly frustrated by the lack of quality new signings at the club.

The situation has grown in tension with Neymar’s departure to PSG earlier in the summer. Barcelona failed to adequately replace Neymar, though they did manage a big signing with their acquisition of Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund, in a deal many think Barcelona grossly overpaid. However, Barcelona have allegedly failed to sign several other key players, and this has only added to Messi’s growing frustration.
Liverpool have repeatedly knocked back offers for Phillipe Coutinho. Angel Di Maria, Jean Seri, Marco Verratti and Hector Bellerin were also on Barcelona’s target list, and all approaches have apparently been rebuked.
So what does this mean for Messi?
At the moment, Manchester City are the frontrunner in a potential move out of Barcelona for the superstar Argentine. Messi and Pepe Guardiola’s mutual respect could add fuel to that particular fire.
There is yet another scenario, however.
According to Gol, Messi does not want to be used as a pawn in the upcoming Barcelona presidential election, and is therefore delaying his signing of a new contract until the elections are over.
Since Manchester City and PSG are currently being investigated by FIFA for their financial fair play dealings, this deal may happen sooner rather than later.
If it is going to happen, that is.
What do you think? Will Lionel Messi call it quits at Barcelona in the summer, or will he finally make a move to England?
