It's time to get art and submissions for the 2018 Steem Silver Round, the contest is now Live!

in #steemsilvergold7 years ago (edited)

We're looking designs to be used on the reverse (front/tails) side of the 2018 Steem Silver Round.

A quick reminder if your not familiar with this project, but this is a physical 1 oz fine silver round (coin) that will be created and struck using the art that is submitted. Last year 1500 were made and they sold within a few weeks and remain very popular.

We are going to do the same as last year and run it as a design contest that anyone can submit art for it will run for 2 weeks and hopefully that will give everyone a chance to get something together. After the submissions we'll put them all together into a voting round and the most popular design will be chosen to be struck on the 2018 version of the Steem Silver Round.

Just ask @bearone how cool it is having your art immortalized on a silver round

Her amazing community design was the winner last year. It really helps to provide a little back ground or info regarding the meaning and reason for your design, similar to what she submitted last year.

For me Steemit is all about Community. Whether it's the Steemit community as a whole or the many groups/communities that are forming within Steemit, or what Steemit can do for the World Wide community - When I think of Steemit I think of Community in all those terms and more.

I wanted to represent "community" with the fish swimming together and community written in Latin, French, English and Tagalog (Filipino).

In this design you can see the growth progression from Minnow to Dolphin to Whale. I also like how the small fish are swimming with the big fish. It's a bit more of an accurate representation of the Steemit Eco-System.

I heard sea/marine life references in Steemit will eventually disappear, I'm not sure if that is true, but I felt if it was (or even if it wasn't), it's important to mark this moment in our Steemit history where we refer to ourselves as Minnows, Dolphins and Whales.

Like how awesome is that!

I'm sure we're going to see some amazing submissions this year, once again anyone can submit a design and the deadline for submission is Feb 7th, 2018. After that we will do a community vote post to determine the winner.

Art can be submitted in any format, black and white/colour, digital or a painting/drawsing/sketch or any type of original art. The sculptor in the past has had problems converting and viewing vector images so it may need to be converted to another file type in the end. Otherwise file format, size and pixels shouldn't be a problem, there may be minor edits required based on technical limitations, especially if any text is used the letters should not be bold or thick.

The art will then be sculpted on to a plaster mold for use in a coin die. The process of coin die creation is explained HERE and HERE, if you want to learn more about what will happen next.

You can post your designs in the comments, but I think a full post would do it better justice, and lets start the tag #Steemsilverround to try to keep everything together.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask in the comments and we'll get you an answer.

A few submissions from last year.

Contest and Prizes

Of course the grand prize is having your art on the coin, but we are also giving Steem Prizes as well.

We will guarantee a First place prize of 30STEEM, second place of 15STEEM and 3rd place of 5STEEM. We do hope to be able to offer additional prizes and that will depend on post payouts and any donations received.

We are hoping to crowdfund part of the coin project to ensure we can offer the best prices on the final product as well the best prizes for the art submissions. All donations can be sent @steemsilverround. All post payouts from any steem silver round posts created by @phelimint and @sevinwilson will be donated and anyone can feel free to commit to the same.

More details about the project can be found HERE.

Please no inquires about sales or preorders at this time.

Otherwise please spread the word and reach out to your favorite steem artists and designers

Just finished this. I know I'm going to have to scan this in but I wanted to see what people thought.IMG_4293.JPG

Also, her face is darker than that it's just the shine of my lamp.

Ummmm wow! Way to take this thing to a whole other level!

I wrote an explanation of the imagery if anyone is interested.

The first round was beautiful, I missed the opportunity to get one but will definitely not miss out on the 2018 edition. @phelimint , if you haven't seen his work yet you should have a look at @ideaman, he is fairly new to steemit and amongst his many talents draws coin art, I think he may be the one you're looking for to draw a superb 2018 steemround! Cheers!

Hey Philodendron, you haven't missed out yet! I still have some original 2017 steem rounds. I just sent a few out to another ssg member. I can ship one or two out to you, I'd like to see them in appreciative hands! PM me on steemit.chat for the cost (steem, LTC, Eos, eth, whatever) if you're interested.

Wow! That's awesome! I was sure I had missed the boat. Since I came to steemit I've been following a few gold and silver lovers, getting more and more wowed by all the possible investments and I decided that this year I would start putting money in metals, having the first steemit silver round as the first piece of my collection would be just a perfect beginning

Cool, a new stacker. You can get me on chat and we can sort out the details.

That is exactly what I did!
My first 2017 steem round is on its way to me now to start my stack!

I did take a look at his coin art, it's really impressive, I also messaged him, thanks for the suggestion.

Can't wait to see the submissions from the designers! This is my favorite part of the whole process! Lets bring it artist!!!!!!!!!

(you hear an engine rev and horn honk)
MEEP! MEEP!
(the window on the humvee rolls down to reveal a warm smiling face)
"Hello! I'm @shadow3scalpel and with the help of my protege, @chairborne, we are actively assisting veterans, retirees and active servicemen and women here on Steemit. We feel it is our 'duty' to support each other. Any questions or comments you may have, simply respond to this comment, thank you!"

and it's on!!!! how exciting!

You've set the bar high once again!!

I see you were quick on the draw, love the design.

Thanks so much boys! Please wish me luck! 🙏🙏

I’m excited to see what design submissions we get for the next round!

There's already coming and already impressive, going to be hard to decide I think.

Cool! I was wondering how we would get designs together. One question I had was if we had say two ideas, would it be okay to submit both of them or should it be narrowed down to one? Thanks

Two would be ffine, it's no problem at all.

Then do we put the submissions here or create a new post?

new post is best, but comment is also ok.

Let's do it AG-ain ! (-:

Hi all! Here is my entry for the contest:
STEEM DOLLAR ENTRY OBVERSE.jpg

Click image or here for my original post.

Sweet design! 💃

In this second version below I've removed the steemit.com logo and replaced it with the STEEM logo along with an adjustment to the year:

STEEM DOLLAR ENTRY OBVERSE 2.jpg

I choose to flip the dolphin on the left side to mirror the one on the right... since the "6-9" orientation was only utilized on my first design in order to match the shape and indentations of the steemit.com "S" logo (which has since been removed).

It has begun XD

I know you have some plans for a new design, but I took the liberty of also showcasing your old ones as well.

I gotta couple guysbibvould talk to. I'll see what's up man.

Awesome, looking forward to seeing the submissions.

Here is my designed steem coin. Can be re-designed and formatted as per the feed backs.

Oh man, this is exciting!
Cant wait for the new coins and to see all the great designs and ideas!

This is so awesome.

Cool I like what you are promoting. Interesting post is excellent!

I might have missed it on the post running on a little amount of sleep, but did you make the deadline for the design yet?

Yea, it's in the post, Feb 7th, I think that should give people plenty of time, I hope.

This is going to be great to see all the entries.

Hmm I might have to see what I can come up with. I had no clue that a contest was ran for the design of this one, but I played around with making coins in concept anyways. Glad it is going on for a couple of weeks cause it will be a day or two before I can work on a new design for this.

Awesome to hear you have some ideas. This was totally a community driven project, we are just helping to bring it to life and helping with the distribution of it. We did try to leave a lot of time for everyone to be able to get involved, we do appreciate all the work involved for the designers.

I will be watching closely regardless of which design gets picked cause I have number 113 of the 2017 rounds.. I got to have a least one 2018 round.

What a great idea to let the community put some input and make it a little more meaningful than anything else like it. You guys get some amazing details out of those silver rounds your knocking out! I can’t wait to get my hands on a few!👍🏼🍺🥓

Yeah, it's really fun to have everyone be part of the project and just be part of this ourselves.

Let the best design win 🤣

Can't wait to see what we get this year!

Wow thanks so much for giving us this great chance to showcase our talents in creative design... I am most happy for this one... @phelimint

Our pleasure, it's really a community round and project, we are just helping out.

Wow you guys dont mess around at the mint
Awesome looking round

Thanks alot, it's just so great being a part of bringing new rounds to life.

exciting development

Hay perlimint is my one in for submission, plus really excited see what the other people have for designs

Yeah, we have your submission in the first update post, head over and check it out.

Is there an official submission thread?

Well this one, or anyone for that matter, but I would recommend going ahead and making a dedicated post and dropping the link somewhere and using the tag #steemsilverround.

You have received an upvote from STAX. Thanks for being a member of the #steemsilvergold community and opting in (if you wish to be removed please follow the link). Please continue to support each other in this great community. To learn more about the #steemsilvergold community and STAX, check this out.

How can i buy one of these?

They are yet to be made, but we will be selling them through our website at www.phelimint.com. We're a bit out from having them in hand yet though.

Hey i have been really thinking about this a bunch. Im going back and cheking the old posts to get as much info before i start asking stupid questions.
:D
Will be annoying you with questions after i check out and double check all the info you have put out already.

This is really cool, any idea on about how much are you going to charge?

Great idea. I had the thought to learn how to design some coins myself. Really neat that you are doing this!

Brilliant idea I’d love to submit a design I’m absolutely rubbish when it comes to CAD or any computer aided design programs so would like to submit a design in pencil but the big question is... where to submit the design :) very new to steem so enjoying all the articles and work people are sharing

Yeah man, get out the pencil and paper, than just make a post and use the tag #steemsilverround or post a link as a comment in any of the update posts from me

Great thanks, I’ll get on it over the next couple of days, watch this space 😊

Heres a quick coin sketch I thought of. If there is an entry link, i havent seen it.

Heres a quick sketch i did20180130_110827.jpg. Not sure if my photo uploaded...

Presentación Combinada Concurso 2.jpg

se que es algo tarde pero igual les presento mi diseño... saludos amigos

I did my best to make something, I'll make a full post about it later myself. I have never designed a coin before, so I'm not sure if it is any good ;) I think Steemit will always be a sea full of happy fish, dolphins and whales, all getting along together. And the Steemit logo makes me think of whales and a yin and yang sign:

I hope you like it :D
