Hello Steem Silver Gold!

SSG Logo.jpg

I am back from vacation.

Let's get down to business.

STEEM SILVER ROUND

Voting has begun to select the 2019 Steem Silver Round. There are 14 entries to choose from this year with Steemit members @dfinney (me), @welshstacker, @edexserverus, @themanwithnoname, @thedamus, @knowledgeseeker, @jorundon, @fat-elvis and @silverstackeruk all contributing one or more options. To vote, please visit @raybrockman's post HERE. You may vote for multiple designs.

MEMBERSHIP

SSG membership is a bit of a hot ticket issue at the moment. Several people have chatted to me offline about possibly culling our member list. @welshstacker also made a post asking the community's opinion on the issue a couple weeks ago.

I think there are several ways to do this IF this is the path we pursue. A start (that seems simple to me) is removing members who have not been active on Steemit in six or more months. My definition of inactive is no posts or comments in six or more months from the member's account. If we choose to deactivate these memberships or if we choose to move them to an inactive list, these are the individuals who would currently be affected:

FYI - This table has three columns. Your phone or tablet might only show the first two columns unless you switch to a landscape orientation.

There are folks on this list who haven't posted in two years. This is in no way meant to say these people aren't valued. However, if you are gone from Steemit it is hard to be a member of a silver and gold stacking community on Steemit. To add to this, if you are a current member and you have given up on Steemit, or lost interest in the group, please reach out to me here or on discord to remove yourself from the membership list. Our interests often shift or change over time. If stacking is no longer one of your interests please let us know.

SSG members, please comment with your thoughts.

Help the community, help yourself!

There are TWO ways to get a community supported votes here at Steem Silver Gold. One is via the @myprecious curation trail, the other is via the @ssg-community subscription bot (which is also confusingly referred to as Precious the Silver Mermaid). Here is a run down of each for our new members and a refresher for the vets.

1. Join the Steem Silver Gold curation trail - HERE

The community curation trail upvotes every member of Steem Silver Gold (unless a member requests otherwise). 23 accounts currently follow the trail. You will see the @myprecious vote appear on one of your posts each day after 14 minutes. 23 other votes are tied to that one! Thank you to everyone on the trail!

vote trail 2.jpg
Members may also choose to delegate to @myprecious. There is no membership requirement to delegate, but it is a selfless way to support the entire community. There are currently 14 delegators to this account. @enginewitty is the most recent delegator. Other delegators include @bauloewe, @ronaldoavelino, @tbnfl4sun, @dkid14, @silverstackeruk, @handofzara, @edthecanadian, @fat-elvis, @dfinney, @thesilverdoll, @jznsamuel, @guiltyparties and @xyzashu. Thank you from all of us.

Join our members only upvoting bot (aka Precious) - HERE

Precious the Silver Mermaid upvoting bot (linked to the @ssg-community account) is open to all members of the #steemsilvergold community. She has well over 100k in voting SP and members can receive daily upvotes by either delegating SP are donating STEEM on a monthly basis.

If you have the funds, the ROI on our community bot is excellent.

If you have questions about the @ssg-community subscription bot (aka Precious the Silver Mermaid), please reach out to @welshstacker. He can advise you on how to delegate, pay liquid steem or use a combination of the two to reach a subscription tier.

Have a lovely week dear silver and gold stackers!

~ XO @dfinney

Hey @dfinney! Thanks for the update. I have delegated to ssg-community when I became a member. I am now following the curation trail:

So, I don't know if I have much, but how much SP is recommended to delegate to @myprecious?

There is no requirement or level. If you would like to delegate just choose an amount that feels doable to you. Any amount is welcomed. 🤗 And following the vote trail and delegating to @myprecious are just different paths to the same end. If you just want to do one and not the other that is OK too.

Okay, I just delegated to @myprecious!

You’re the best! 😍🥰 🤗

A few names surprised me, but then again they might still be following the voting trail, or something. But it's fewer names than I was expecting.

I think some people are completely Steemit inactive and others are inactive to the tag. Which is a whole other issue.

Agree completely , but that's a deeper discussion. There might those that are commenting more than posting and I might not see.

Being inactive for more than 6 months probably means you have lost interest but it does not cost any voting power, but what does cost voting power is members who join and then never post about precious metals again but use it as any other voting bot.

I used to be a fan of curation trails but it was something someone said about votes going to things they do not agree and it draining my own vp has put me off but for precious i will make a compromise and delegate 50sp anyway.

I agree with your comment. However, from a logistical sense, maintaining a list with people who seem to have dropped steemit gets unwieldy. You are correct that their continued existence as members does no benefit nor harm. It just seems inaccurate to list them as members if they are gone.

As for people who access the bot but never post about metals again... this is also a problem. But today I am tackling low hanging fruit first. ☺️

As for the vote trail, your reasoning is why I delegate.

Looks to me as if most of the inactive members have left Steemit.

From the names above yes. There are other people who haven’t posted or commented in 4 or 5 months... but I just picked 6 months as a starting spot.

I would have figured more people would have been inactive than that, but I suppose that means we must be doing something right!

Thinking of Delegating now that I'm 500+sp.
Darn, what am I thinking of! My desktop monitor should be in the Landscape position, so much easier to read. Excuse me while I fix this.

I am always on my phone so I miss everything on the far right. 😉

I remember several of those names. Perhaps instead of dropping them completely, since (most likely) their delegations still remain, can put them on an inactive roster. Would be hurtful for them if they got removed and came back to see they weren't being loved on with their memberships technically in tact. Just a thought. One of the qualifications in #thealliance is to remain active. This is accomplished in various ways, like the trail and delegations. Part of the package now as we used to just go by posting consistency.

None of these accounts delegate.

If they don't delegate and haven't been active, I would look at it like cleaning house. The way you've phrased it @dfinney is kind and non-judgmental. If they come back they could always say hey and rejoin the community.

Thank you @katrina-ariel. ☺️

I don't see a problem with culling or moving members that have been inactive for 6 months to an inactive list. It's not like they can't come back, right? This would be a step in the right direction as far as keeping the current membership list updated and current.

However, as you know it doesn't touch on the main issue that @welshstacker was bringing up... and that is to prevent abuse of the community bot. His idea was to remove members that ARE active BUT not posting, "enough" about precious metals.

For that issue, I think we'll need some kind of rule with specifics about how often a precious metals post is necessary as well as some kind of cull or enforcement necessary to accomplish that goal. I mentioned on @welshstacker's post that I might be in favor of this but would want to hear specifics on how it would work... (How often must one post? How many days can pass? Is quality an issue? Can someone just post a pic of a silver object and tag steemsilvergold?) It's tricky to make a rule like this that is fair, but I do think we should explore the topic.

I'd be interested to hear what others come up with to make such a rule work in a fair way!

People could totally come back. ☺️ I just feel like if they aren’t coming back why do we keep track of them.

As for the rest, it’s definitely a touchy discussion. Especially, when you start to put faces of friends (or actual family) to the folks that might fall outside of any parameters that could be set.

The bot makes things harder. I wonder if anyone would care about who is or isn’t a member and what they are posting about without the bot. When I think of it that way I wonder if there should be rules specific to the bot subscription vs. specific rules to membership.

Some of these people might see their delegations as a way to support a community in which they no longer actively participate.

And of course all of this is harder to discuss in disconnected steemit posts and replies than it would be to hammer out as a group in a room somewhere.

And on top of all of your questions about what criteria we might set, I also wonder who has the time to be post counter/quality enforcer.

All good points. :)

They need to go. There are way more then that, but it’s a start. There’s more than 40 others that haven’t posted about anything related to our community in 6 months or more. I just unfollowed that many after getting angry that they never post about anything related to our great community. They all need to stop milking our precious if they are gonna be a part of the community. While i get that it’s not easy posting about metals or crypto ever day. But atleast 50% of the time should be a minimum to stay active. Just my thought but I’m sure I’m not alone on this.

If I might add my two cents... I don't post much on precious metals, but I like reading about them and frequent stacker posts. I'm also more active in the SSG server than I am many other places in discord.

My posts have always been about writing and music and the things I do, and I don't actually like showing off all the treasure I have (though I love looking at what others have in their stashes). But I'm still a stacker, and I upvote community posts and comments as I see them. So, perhaps we could look at a broader definition of community participation than the subject of posts, since there are those of us who don't include silver on our blogs frequently, but are still stackers.

Congratulations @myprecious!

Let the culling begin!!!

Omg... it’s like The Hunger Games around here.

No reason not to remove those that have been inactive for 6 months as they can always return.

As for those not doing any Metals post we can institute a 4 metals post monthly requirement. Thats literally 1 post a week in a month. The rest can be whatever under ssglife. I think this is more than reasonable. Give a two week window to get the word out and then start the closck with firm start times lile the begininning of August. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks dwings. 😊

Part 2
I am not thinking about at the moment. Shoot I barely post weekly about anything lately let alone a specific topic. 😉

Honestly, metals posting and commenting is important (being per of a metal collecting group). But I would rather see someone never post about metals but who is really active in our group (commenting and donating to the raffle or something) than see someone who meets the metals post requirement but then never responds to comments on their posts or never interacts with folks in the community. Or someone who puts up some crap post like hey here is a coin and then copies everything about it from APMEX.

It is a multifaceted issue to consider and everyone has different opinions depending on their own Steemit and personal experience.
