Daily Coin # 40 A 1973 NIFC 10 Dollar Olympic coin from Canada

Although minted in 1973 this enormous coin was minted in celebration of the XXl Olympiad that was held in Montreal Canada 1976 . A whopping 45 mm in diameter this beauty weighs in at 48.6 grams of sterling silver or 44.9 grams of .999 which converts to a healthy 1.44 troy oz . This coin is one of twenty eight in a set .
The obverse of this large coin shows a very nice portrait of a younger Elizabeth ll facing to the right and the words Elizabeth ll and Canada 1973 separated by the iconic Canadian Maple Leaf .

The reverse features a map of the world with the Olympic logo and the words 21 Olympiad in French and English , Montreal 1976 on the left of the map and the denomination (10 dollars) at the bottom .

You have the second of the seven sets. I love these $10 coins because they are huge and here in Canada the price is just a little above spot price. Each of the 28 coins had an average mintage of more than 1,000,000. Some Canadian dealers have huge stocks and they sell them very cheap. These coins have no numismatic value (only the proof ones have numismatic value).
